Sahih Muslim Book - 46, Hadith - 6741
حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ ، يَعْنِي ابْنَ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الْقَارِيَّ ، عَنْ أَبِي حَازِمٍ ، عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ السَّاعِدِيِّ ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ: إِنَّ الرَّجُلَ لَيَعْمَلُ عَمَلَ أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ ، فِيمَا يَبْدُو لِلنَّاسِ وَهُوَ مِنْ أَهْلِ النَّارِ ، وَإِنَّ الرَّجُلَ لَيَعْمَلُ عَمَلَ أَهْلِ النَّارِ ، فِيمَا يَبْدُو لِلنَّاسِ وَهُوَ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ.
It was narrated from Sahl bin Sa'd As-Sa'idi that the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) said: "A man may do the deeds of the people of Paradise, or so it may seem to the people, although he is one of the people of the Fire. And a man may do the deeds of (the people of) the Fire, or so it seems to the people, although he is one of the people of Paradise."
