Sahih Muslim Book - 44, Hadith - 6264

حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى ، وَيَحْيَى بْنُ أَيُّوبَ ، وَقُتَيْبَةُ ، وَابْنُ حُجْرٍ ، قَالَ : يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى : أَخْبَرَنَا وقَالَ الآخَرُونَ : حَدَّثَنَا ، إِسْمَاعِيلُ يَعْنُونَ ابْنَ جَعْفَرٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ دِينَارٍ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ ابْنَ عُمَرَ ، يَقُولُ : بَعَثَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بَعْثًا ، وَأَمَّرَ عَلَيْهِمْ أُسَامَةَ بْنَ زَيْدٍ ، فَطَعَنَ النَّاسُ فِي إِمْرَتِهِ ، فَقَامَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ : إِنْ تَطْعَنُوا فِي إِمْرَتِهِ ، فَقَدْ كُنْتُمْ تَطْعَنُونَ فِي إِمْرَةِ أَبِيهِ مِنْ قَبْلُ ، وَايْمُ اللهِ إِنْ كَانَ لَخَلِيقًا لِلإِمْرَةِ ، وَإِنْ كَانَ لَمِنْ أَحَبِّ النَّاسِ إِلَيَّ ، وَإِنَّ هَذَا لَمِنْ أَحَبِّ النَّاسِ إِلَيَّ بَعْدَهُ.

It was narrated from 'Abdullah bin Dinar that he heard Ibn 'Umar say: "The Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) sent an expedition and he appointed Usamah bin Zaid in charge of them. The people objected to his command and the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) stood up and said: 'You object to his command and you objected to the command of his father before him. By Allah, he (his father) was fit to command, and he was one of the dearest of people to me, and he (Usamah) is one of the dearest of people to me after him."
