Sahih Muslim Book - 38, Hadith - 5588

حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، وَإِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، قَالَ عُثْمَانُ : حَدَّثَنَا ، وقَالَ إِسْحَاقُ : أَخْبَرَنَا جَرِيرٌ ، عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ ، عَنْ سَالِمِ بْنِ أَبِي الْجَعْدِ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ ، قَالَ : وُلِدَ لِرَجُلٍ مِنَّا غُلاَمٌ فَسَمَّاهُ مُحَمَّدًا ، فَقَالَ لَهُ قَوْمُهُ : لاَ نَدَعُكَ تُسَمِّي بِاسْمِ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَانْطَلَقَ بِابْنِهِ حَامِلَهُ عَلَى ظَهْرِهِ فَأَتَى بِهِ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ، وُلِدَ لِي غُلاَمٌ فَسَمَّيْتُهُ مُحَمَّدًا فَقَالَ لِي قَوْمِي : لاَ نَدَعُكَ تُسَمِّي بِاسْمِ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : تَسَمَّوْا بِاسْمِي وَلاَ تَكْتَنُوا بِكُنْيَتِي ، فَإِنَّمَا أَنَا قَاسِمٌ أَقْسِمُ بَيْنَكُمْ.

It was narrated from Salim bin Abu Ja'd that Jabir bin 'Abdullah said: "A boy was born to a man among us, and he called him Muhammad. His people said to him: 'We will not let you call him by 'the name of the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w).' He took his son, carrying him on his back, and brought him to the Prophet (s.a.w), and he said: 'O Messenger of Allah, a boy had been born to me and I named him Muhammad, but my people said to me: "We will not let you call him by the name of the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w). "'The Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) said: 'You may call yourselves by my name but do not call yourselves by my Kunyah, for I am Qasim (distributor), I distribute (Allah's blessings) among you.'"
