حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مَسْلَمَةَ بْنِ قَعْنَبٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا مَالِكٌ ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ سَعِيدٍ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ بْنِ وَقَّاصٍ ، عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : إِنَّمَا الأَعْمَالُ بِالنِّيَّةِ ، وَإِنَّمَا لاِمْرِئٍ مَا نَوَى ، فَمَنْ كَانَتْ هِجْرَتُهُ إِلَى اللهِ وَرَسُولِهِ ، فَهِجْرَتُهُ إِلَى اللهِ وَرَسُولِهِ ، وَمَنْ كَانَتْ هِجْرَتُهُ لِدُنْيَا يُصِيبُهَا أَوِ امْرَأَةٍ يَتَزَوَّجُهَا ، فَهِجْرَتُهُ إِلَى مَا هَاجَرَ إِلَيْهِ.
It was narrated that 'Umar bin Al-Khattab said: "The Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) said: 'Deeds are but with intentions and each man will have but that which he intended. If a man's emigration was in the cause of Allah and His Messenger, then his emigration was in the cause of Allah and His Messenger, but if his migration was to achieve some worldly aim or to take some woman in marriage, his emigration was for that for which he emigrated.'"
