Fai tha rakiboo fee alfulki daAAawoo All a ha mukhli s eena lahu a l ddeena falamm a najj a hum il a albarri i tha hum yushrikoon a And so, when they embark on a ship [and find themselves in danger], they call unto God, [at that moment] sincere in their faith in Him alone; but as soon as He has brought them safe ashore, they [begin to] ascribe to imaginary powers a share in His divinity:
 - Mohammad Asad
If they embark on a ship, and the ship gets into trouble, they call upon Allah, being sincerely obedient to Him; but when He brings them safely to land, they start committing shirk (giving credit for their safe arrival to others);
 - Muhammad Farooq-i-Azam Malik
If they happen to be aboard a ship 'caught in a storm', they cry out to Allah 'alone' in sincere devotion. But as soon as He delivers them 'safely' to shore, they associate 'others with Him once again'.
 - Mustafa Khattab
And when they mount upon the ships they pray to Allah, making their faith pure for Him only, but when He bringeth them safe to land, behold! they ascribe partners (unto Him),
 - Marmaduke Pickthall
Now if they embark on a boat they call on Allah making their devotion sincerely (and exclusively) to Him; but when He had delivered them safely to (dry) land Behold they give a share (of their worship to others)! 3498
