Shaitan desires to stir up enmity and hatred between you withintoxicants and gambling and to prevent you from the remembranceof Allah and from Salah (prayers). Will you not abstain?

Stubbornness

By no means! Because he has stubbornly denied Our revelations.

Soon I shall make him suffer mounting calamities,

surely he pondered and devised a plot.

It is not proper that the believers should go forth all together.Therefore, why not a squadron from each division stay behind sothat they may obtain the understanding of Deen (Al-Islam), andadmonish the people when they return to them so that they mayrefrain from un-Islamic conduct!

None dispute the revelations of Allah but those who disbelieve;so let not their affluent activity in the land deceive you.

Subduing

Fight those people of the Book (Jews and Christians) who do notbelieve in Allah and the Last Day, do not refrain from what hasbeen prohibited by Allah and His Rasool and do not embrace thereligion of truth (Al-Islam), until they pay Jizya (protectiontax) with their own hands and feel themselves subdued.

Do you not see that Allah has subdued to you all that is in theearth and the ships that sail through the sea by His command? Heis withholding the sky in a way that it cannot fall down on theearth without His permission; surely Allah is very kind andmerciful to mankind.

We have included the sacrificial camels among the Symbols ofAllah, for there is much good for you in them. Therefore,pronounce the name of Allah over them while standing, and whenthey fall down on their sides after slaughter, when theirmovement completely stops, then eat of their meat, feed thecontented (poor who do not ask) and the beggars (poor who ask).Thus We have subjected these animals to you so that you may begrateful.

Allah has made your homes the place for your rest, and animalskins for tents like houses so that you may find them light whenyou travel and easy to pitch when you stop; while from theirwool, fur, and hair He provides you household items and articlesof convenience for your prescribed term of life.

Allah has provided you shades from the sun out of what He hascreated. He has granted you resorts in the mountains, has grantedyou garments to protect yourselves from heat; and coats of armorto protect you during your wars. Thus He completes his favors toyou, so that you may become Muslims.

Pagans, by the

So if they argue with you (O Muhammad), tell them: "I havesubmitted myself entirely to Allah and so have those who followme." Then ask those who are given the Book and those who areilliterates: "Will you also submit yourselves to Allah?" If theybecome Muslims they shall be rightly guided but if they turnback, you need not worry, because your sole responsibility is toconvey the Message. Allah is watching all His servants veryclosely.

It may well be that, if he divorce you all, his Rabb will givehim in your place better wives than yourselves, submissive,faithful, obedient, penitent, worshippers and keepers of fasting;be they previously married or virgins.

It is WeWho distribute the means of their livelihood in the life of thisworld, raising some in rank above others, so that one may takeothers into his service. But the blessing of your Rabb is fargreater in value than the wealth of this world which they amass.

Suckling

The mothers shall breast-feed their offspring for two whole yearsif the father wishes the breast-feeding to be completed. Thereasonable cost of their maintenance and clothing will be theresponsibility of the child's father. No one should be chargedwith more than they can afford. Neither a mother should be madeto suffer on account of her child nor a father on account of hischild. The father's heirs are under the same obligation. But ifwith mutual agreement they both decide to wean the child there isno blame on them. If you decide to have a foster-mother for youroffspring there is no blame on you provided you pay what you havepromised to pay in an honorable manner. Fear Allah and bewarethat Allah observes your actions.

Compensation for that of offspring by divorced women

65 : 6

Let those women, during their waiting period ('Iddat), live whereyou yourselves live according to your means. You shall not harassthem so as to make life intolerable for them. If they arepregnant, maintain them until their delivery: and if, after that,they suckle your offspring, compensate them and settle the matterof compensation with mutual consultation and in all fairness. Butif you cannot bear with each other then let another woman sucklethe baby for you.

Let the rich man give according to his means, and the poor mangive according to what Allah has given him. Allah does not chargea man with more than He has given him; soon Allah may bring easeafter hardship.

For those who migrated for the sake of Allah after persecution,We will certainly provide them a good abode in this life and thereward of the hereafter will be much greater, if they but knewwhat a happy end awaits

It is not proper for the people of Madinah and the beduin Arabsof the neighborhood to forsake the Rasool of Allah or tojeopardize his life so as to safeguard their own: because they donot suffer any thirst or hunger or any ordeal for the sake ofAllah, or take any step which may provoke the unbelievers, orreceive any injury from an enemy, but shall be written down as agood deed to their account; for Allah does not waste the rewardof the righteous.

We did send Rasools before you to other nations and afflictedthem with suffering and adversities so that they might learnhumility.

Patience and steadfastness in

Righteousness is not whether you turn your face towards East orWest; but the righteousness is to believe in Allah, the Last Day,the Angels, the Books and the Prophets, and to spend wealth outof love for Him on relatives, orphans, helpless, needytravellers, those who ask for and on the redemption of captives;and to establish Salah (prayers), to pay Zakah (alms), to fulfillpromises when made, to be steadfast in distress, in adversity,and at the time of war. These people are the truthful and theseare the pious.

Do you think that you will enter Paradise without any trialswhile you have known the examples of those who passed away beforeyou? They were afflicted with suffering and adversity and were soviolently shaken up that even the Rasool and the believers withhim cried out: "When will Allah's help come?" Then they werecomforted with the words, Be aware! Allah's help is ever close.

To the people of Madyan We sent their brother Shu'aib, who said:"O my people! Worship Allah and look forward to the Last Day, anddo not transgress in the land wickedly."

You shall not kill anyone whom Allah has forbidden, except forjust cause under the law. If anyone is killed unjustly, We havegranted the right of retribution to his heir, but let him notcarry his vengeance too far in killing the culprit through takingthe law in his own hands, as he is supported by the law.
