As for those who are unbelievers, if they have everything thatthe earth contains or twice as much to offer as a ransom toredeem themselves from the punishment of the Day of Resurrection,it will not be accepted from them and they shall have a painfulpunishment.
They will desire to get out of the fire but will not be able todo so and they shall have an everlasting punishment.
True servants of the Compassionate (Allah) are those who walk onthe earth in humility and when the ignorant people address them, they say: "Peace;"
It is He Who has made the earth subservient to you, to walkthrough its tracts and eat of His provided sustenance. To Him isthe return at resurrection.
The beduin Arabs say: "We have believed." Tell them: "You havenot believed; rather say 'We have become Muslims;' for faith hasnot yet found its way into your hearts. If you obey Allah and HisRasool, He will not deny you the reward of your deeds; surelyAllah is Forgiving, Merciful."
If We show them mercy and relieve them of their affliction, theywould obstinately persist in their rebellion, blindly wanderingto and fro;
You shall not kill your children for fear of want, for it is WeWho provide sustenance for them as well as for you; surelykilling them is a great blunder.
You shall give to your relatives their due and to the needy andto the wayfarers. You shall not be a spendthrift
Whatever spoils from the dwellers of the township Allah hasbestowed on His Rasool, shall belong to Allah, His Rasool,Rasool's relatives, and to the orphans, the needy and thetravellers in need; so that it may not become the property of therich among you. Whatever the Rasool gives you, take it and fromwhatever he forbids you, refrain from it. Fear Allah; for Allahis stern in retribution.

Therefore, when you meet the unbelievers in the battlefield smitetheir necks and, when you have thoroughly subdued them, then takeprisoners of war and bind them firmly. After the war lay down herburdens, then you have the choice whether you show them favor oraccept ransom. Thus are you commanded. If Allah wanted, HeHimself could have punished them; but He adopted this way so thatHe may test some of you by means of others. As for those who areslain in the cause of Allah, He will never let their deeds belost.
Do not show weakness in following up the enemy; if you aresuffering hardships they too are suffering similar hardships;moreover, you have hope to receive reward from Allah while theyhave none. Allah is the Knowledgeable, Wise.
Let those (disposing of an estate) have the same fear in theirminds as they would have for their own if they were to leave ahelpless family behind: they should, therefore, fear Allah andspeak for justice.
O Prophet! Tell the captives in your custody: "If Allah findsgoodness in your hearts He will give you even better than whathas been taken from you, as well as forgive you. Allah IsForgiving, Merciful."
Surely We sent Our Rasools with clear signs, and sent down withthem the Book and the Scales of Justice, so that men may conductthemselves with fairness. We also sent down Iron, with its mightystrength and diverse uses for mankind, so that Allah may knowthose who will help Him, though unseen, and help His Rasools.Surely Allah is All-Powerful, All-Mighty.
Allah does not forbid you to be kind and equitable to those whohad neither fought against your faith nor driven you out of yourhomes. In fact Allah loves the equitable.
Remember when you said to the believers, "Is it not enough thatAllah should send down three thousand angels to help you?"
Of course! If you remain patient and on your guard, Allah willsend to your aid not three thousand but, five thousand speciallymarked angels in case of a sudden attack from the enemy.
Do you think that you will enter paradise without going throughthe trial? Allah has not yet tested you to see who among youstrive hard for His cause and who show patience for His sake.
In the past many Prophets have fought, in the way of Allah, witha large number of godly people. They did not loose heart duringthe adversities that befell them in the path of Allah; theyneither showed weakness nor submitted to falsehood. Allah lovesthe steadfast.
Their only words were, "Our Rabb! Forgive our sins and ourexcesses; establish our feet firmly and give us victory over theunbelievers."
Therefore, Allah gave them the reward in this world and also anexcellent reward awaits them in the Hereafter. Allah loves therighteous who are good to others.
Therefore, do not be fainthearted crying for peace, for you willsurely gain the upper hand. Allah is on your side and will neverlet your deeds be wasted.
Do not show weakness in following up the enemy; if you aresuffering hardships they too are suffering similar hardships;moreover, you have hope to receive reward from Allah while theyhave none. Allah is the Knowledgeable, Wise.
O believers! Prepare yourselves for encounter, then advance indetachments or all together as the occasion may require.
When you, O Muhammad, are with them, leading their Salah (prayerin the state of war), let one party of them stand up to pray withyou, armed with their weapons. After they finish theirprostrations, let them withdraw to the rear and let the otherparty who have not yet prayed come forward to pray with you; andlet them also be on their guard, armed with their weapons. Theunbelievers wish to see you neglect your arms and your baggage,so that they could suddenly attack to overpower you all in onestroke. However, there is no blame on you if you lay aside yourarms because of heavy rain or because you are sick, but youshould still be on your guard. Allah has prepared a humiliatingpunishment for the unbelievers.
It is not fit for a Prophet that he should take prisoners of waruntil he has thoroughly subdued the land. Do you, O followers ofMuhammad, desire the temporal goods of this world? While Allahdesires for you the hereafter? Allah is Mighty, Wise.
Had there not been a previous sanction from Allah to take ransom, you should have been sternly punished for what you have taken.
Very well, enjoy the booty which you have taken, for it is lawfuland pure, but in the future fear Allah. Allah is Forgiving,Merciful.
O Prophet! Tell the captives in your custody: "If Allah findsgoodness in your hearts He will give you even better than whathas been taken from you, as well as forgive you. Allah IsForgiving, Merciful."
But if they have treacherous designs against you, O Prophet, theyhave already shown treason against Allah. That is why He madethem your captives. Allah is Knowledgeable, Wise.
If they give no heed, then you should know that Allah is yourprotector. He is the best to protect and the best to help.
The punishment for those who wage war against Allah and HisRasool and strive to create mischief in the land is death orcrucifixion or the cutting off their hands and feet from oppositesides or exile from the land based on the gravity of theiroffense. This will be their humiliation in this world and in theHereafter they will have grievous punishment,
except those who repent before you apprehend them, in such acase, you should know that Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.
Guard yourselves against temptation. The wrongdoers among you arenot the only ones who will be tempted; and know that Allah isstrict in retribution.

How is it that when you are afflicted with a loss, after youyourselves had inflicted losses twice as heavy upon your enemy inthe battle of Badr, you exclaimed: "Whose fault was that?" Say tothem: "It was your own fault," Allah has power over everything.
Know that one-fifth of the booty (spoils of war) is for Allah,His Rasool, close relatives of the Rasool, orphans, the needy andthe wayfarer, if you do believe in Allah and in what We revealedto Our servant on the day of distinction (between right andwrong), the day when two armies met in combat. Allah has powerover everything.
When you set forth to take the spoils of war, those who stayedbehind will say: "Let us come with you." They wish to changeAllah's decree. Tell them plainly: "You shall not come with us.Allah has already said this before." Then they will say: "Nay!But you are jealous of us." Whereas there is no question ofjealousy, but little do they understand such things.

A share of the spoils shall be given to the indigent Muhajirin(immigrants) who were driven out of their homes and theirpossessions, and are seeking Allah's grace and His good pleasureand who want to help Allah and His Rasool: such are indeed thetrue believers.

When you travel in the earth, there is no blame on you if youshorten your prayers, especially when you fear that theunbelievers may attack you, since the unbelievers are your openenemies.
When you, O Muhammad, are with them, leading their Salah (prayerin the state of war), let one party of them stand up to pray withyou, armed with their weapons. When you finish your Salah (prayers) remember Allah whether youare standing, sitting or reclining; then as soon as you are safe(out of danger) establish regular Salah in full. Surely Salah aremade obligatory for the believers at their prescribed times.
They ask you about booty (spoils of war). Tell them: "The Bootybelongs to Allah and His Rasool: so fear Allah, end yourdisputes, and correct the relations between yourselves: obeyAllah and His Rasool if you are true believers."

Muster against them all the military strength and cavalry thatyou can afford so that you may strike terror into the hearts ofthe enemy of Allah and of your, and others besides them who areunknown to you but known to Allah. Remember that whatever youwill spend in the cause of Allah, shall be paid back to you infull and you shall not be treated unjustly.
and whoever turns his back to them on such an occasion - unlessit be a strategy of war, or to join towards a detachment - shallincur the wrath of Allah and his abode shall be hell, and howawful shall be that dwelling!
Do not show weakness in following up the enemy; if you aresuffering hardships they too are suffering similar hardships;moreover, you have hope to receive reward from Allah while theyhave none. Allah is the Knowledgeable, Wise.
If you have suffered a wound, so did the enemy. We alternatethese days of varying fortunes among mankind so that Allah mayknow the true believers and take witnesses to the truth (grantmartyrdom) from among you, for Allah does not love the unjustpeople,
and that Allah may purge the believers and annihilate theunbelievers.
Do you think that you will enter paradise without going throughthe trial? Allah has not yet tested you to see who among youstrive hard for His cause and who show patience for His sake.
Permission to fight back is hereby granted to the believersagainst whom war is waged and because they are oppressed (beforethis revelation, Muslims were not allowed to fight even for selfdefence); certainly Allah has power to grant them victory
- those who have been unjustly expelled from their homes onlybecause they said, "Our Lord is Allah." Had not Allah repelledsome people by the might of others, the monasteries, churches, synagogues, and mosques in which Allah's praise is dailycelebrated, would have been utterly demolished. Allah willcertainly help those who help His cause; most surely Allah isMighty, Powerful.
The punishment for those who wage war against Allah and HisRasool and strive to create mischief in the land is death orcrucifixion or the cutting off their hands and feet from oppositesides or exile from the land based on the gravity of theiroffense. O Muhammad, tell them: "O mankind! I am merely a plain Warner toyou;
Possessor of the Highest Rank, the Master of the Throne ofAuthority sends down the Spirit by His command on those of Hisservants whom He chooses, that he (the Prophet who received therevelations) may warn mankind of the Day when they shall meetHim.
The Day when they all shall come forth from their graves withnothing hidden from Allah. It will be asked: "Whose is theKingdom today?" No one shall dare to speak, and Allah Himselfwill say: "It is Allah's, the One, the Irresistible.
Today every soul shall be rewarded for whatever it has earned;today there shall be no injustice; surely Allah is swift insettling accounts."
O Prophet, warn them of the Day that is drawing near, when thehearts will leap up to the throats with grief; when thewrongdoers will have neither friend nor intercessor who could begiven heed to.
Thus have We revealed to you this Qur'an in Arabic, so that youmay warn the residents of the Mother City (Makkah) and itssuburbs, and forewarn them of the Day of assembly about whichthere is no doubt: when some will go to paradise and others tothe blazing fire.
Answer the call of your Rabb before that Day arrives which cannotbe averted against the will of Allah. There shall be no refugefor you on that Day, nor shall you be able to deny your sins.
We have destroyed the towns which were once flourished around you- and We repeatedly sent them Our revelations so that they mayturn to the Right Way.
- Then Why did not those whom they worshipped besides Allahhelped them who they regarded as a means of attaining nearness toHim? But those deities utterly forsake them, because those werenothing but their lies and their false inventions.
Tell them the story of 'Ad's brethren, the Prophet Hud, when hewarned his people, the residents of Ahqaf - in fact Warners cameto them before him and after him - saying: "Worship none butAllah. Surely I fear for you the torment of a mighty Day."
They replied: "Have you come to turn us away from our gods? Bringus the torment that you threaten us with, if you are telling thetruth."
The Prophet Hud said: "The Knowledge of when it is going to comeis only with Allah. I am only conveying the Message with which Ihave been sent, however, I can see that you are ignorant people."
Then when they saw the torment in the shape of a cloud comingtowards their valleys, they said: "This cloud will bring usrain." - "Nay! It is what you were asking for, a fierce windbringing you a woeful torment.
It is going to destroy everything by the command of its Rabb.Consequently by the morning, there was nothing to be seen exceptthe ruins of their dwellings. Thus did We reward those guiltypeople.
We had established them much better than We have established you,O Qureysh of Makkah, and endowed them with the faculties ofhearing, seeing, and intellect. Yet their faculties of hearing, sight and intellect avail them nothing since they denied therevelations of Allah; and they were completely hemmed in by thesame thing that they used to mock at.
It is He Who drove the disbelievers from among the People of theBook (reference is to the Jewish tribe of Banu Al-Nadir) out oftheir homes at the first banishment. You did not think that theywould ever go out; and they thought that their fortresses woulddefend them from Allah, but the wrath of Allah came to them fromwhere they never expected - which casted such terror into theirhearts - that they destroyed their homes by their own hands aswell as by the hands of the believers. So learn a lesson fromthis example! O the people of insight.
Had Allah not decreed exile for them, He would certainly havepunished them in this world, and in the hereafter there shall bethe punishment of the fire for them,
because they set themselves up against Allah and His Rasool; andhe that set himself up against Allah should know that Allah isstern in retribution.
But they disbelieved him. As a result, We saved him and those ofthem who were with him in the Ark and We made them successors inthe Earth and drowned those who rejected Our revelations. You seewhat was the end of those who were warned but did not believe!
We refrain from sending signs (miracles) only because the men offormer generations treated them as false. For example, We sentthe she-camel to the people of Thamud - a manifest sign - butthey laid violent hands on her. We send the signs only by way ofwarning, and if people reject the sign after receiving it, theyare doomed.
Remember, O Muhammad! We told you that your Rabb encompassesmankind. We have made the Vision which We showed you, and thecursed tree of Zaqqum which is mentioned in the Qur'an, a testfor these people of Makkah. We are giving them warning to befearful but it only increases their inordinate transgression.
These very people used to swear on solemn oaths by Allah that ifa Warner ever come to them, they would be better guided than anyother nation of the world; yet when a Warner has come to themthey have increased in nothing but aversion,
behaving arrogantly in the land and plotting evil, whereas theplotting of evil recoils none but the authors of it. Are theyawaiting for that end which overtook the former nations? If so,you shall find no change in the ways of Allah, nor will you findany alteration in Allah's way of dealing.
Have they not traveled through the land and see what was the endof those who went before them, who were far superior in strengththan these people? There is nothing in the heavens or in theearth which can frustrate Allah; surely He is All-Knowing,All-Powerful.
though We had sent Warners towards them.
See what was the end of those who had been forewarned: they allperished,
After the Judgement, the Unbelievers will be driven to hell ingroups. When they reach there, its gates will be opened and itskeepers will say: "Did there not come to you Rasools from amongyourselves, who recited to you the revelations of your Rabb andforewarned you about the meeting of this Day?" "Yes," they willanswer. But at that time the sentence of punishment would havebeen already announced against the unbelievers."
Do you feel secure that He Who is in heaven, will not cause theearth to cave in beneath you and start shaking suddenly?
Or do you feel secure that He Who is in heaven will not sendagainst you a violent tornado, then you shall know how was Mywarning!
Those who have gone before them likewise disbelieved, then seehow terrible was the way I rejected them?
Thus have we sent down this Qur'an in Arabic and clearlyproclaimed in it some of the warnings so that they may take heedor that it may serve as a reminder to them.
For every prophecy there is an appointed time, and soon you willcome to know."
Are they waiting for the Hour of Doom to overtake them all of asudden? Do they not know that its signs have already come andwhen it will actually overtake them, what chance will they haveto benefit then by this admonition?
Likewise the people of 'Ad did not believe then how terrible wasMy scourge and how clear My Warning!
We let loose on them a tornado, on the day of their bittermisfortune,
which snatched them off like trunks of uprooted palm-trees.
How terrible was My scourge and how clear My warning!
So We opened the gates of heaven with pouring rain
and caused the earth to burst with gushing springs, and thewaters met to fulfill the decreed end.
We carried him in an Ark built with planks and nails,
which drifted on under Our care: a reward for him (Noah) who wasdenied by the unbelievers.
We have left that Ark as a sign, so is there any who would takeadmonition?
Another example is the people of Lut (Lot) who disbelieved Ourwarning.
We let loose on them a stone-charged tornado which spared noneexcept Lut's household, whom We saved by early dawn
Lut did warn them of Our scourge but they doubted his warnings.
They even sought to snatch away his guests from him but Weblinded their eyes, and said: "Now taste My punishment and theresult of disbelieving My warning."
At daybreak they were overtaken by a lasting punishment
as if to say: "Now taste My punishment and the result ofdisbelieving My warning."
The people of Thamud disbelieved Our warning,
saying: "Are we to follow a human who stands alone among us? Thatwould surely be an error and madness.
Was he the only person among us to receive this warning? Nay! Heis indeed an insolent liar."
To Our Rasool Saleh, We said: "Tomorrow they shall find out whois an insolent liar.
We are going to send the she-camel as a trial for them. Therefore, watch them and have patience.
Tell them that the water must be shared between them and theshe-camel, and each will come to the water at its own turn.
At last the people of Thamud called out to one of theircompanions, who took the responsibility and hamstrung her.
Then how terrible was My scourge and how clear My warning!
We let loose on them one mighty blast and they became like thetrampled twigs used by a fence builder.
I am informed about all this through a revelation because I amassigned the mission of a plain Warner."
Admonish your close relatives
Certainly, We have destined many Jinns and human beings for hell;those are the ones who have hearts with which they do notunderstand, they have eyes with which they do not see, they haveears with which they do not hear. They are like animals - or evenworse than them , because they are those who are heedless.
O people of the Book! Indeed Our Rasool has now come to youmaking clear to you the teaching of the Right Way, after a longbreak in the series of the Rasools, so that you may not be ableto say, "No one has come to give us good news or to warn us." Nowsomeone has come to give you good news and warn you so listen tohim. Allah has power over everything.
Indeed We have forewarned you of an imminent punishment whichlies close-at-hand, on the Day when man shall see what his handshave sent forth and the unbeliever will cry: "I wish! I couldremain merely dust."
We shall create their wives of special creation
The flames of fire and molten brass will be unleashed on you both, jinns and men, and you will not be able to defend yourselves.
and make them virgins
Then, O jinns and men, which of your Rabb’s favors will both of you deny?
beloved by nature, equal in age,
When the heaven splits asunder and reddens like red-oil.
for those of the right hand.
Then, O jinns and men, which of your Rabb’s favors will both of you deny?
Many of them will be from the former
On that Day neither man nor jinn will need be asked about his sins.
and many from the later generations.
Then, O jinns and men, which of your Rabb’s favors will both of you deny?
As for those of the left hand - how unfortunate will be thepeople of the left hand!
Because the sinners will be recognized by their faces and they shall be seized by their forelocks and their feet.
They will be in the midst of scorching winds and in boilingwater:
Then, O jinns and men, which of your Rabb’s favors will both of you deny?
in the shade of a pitch-black smoke,
It will be said to them: “This is the hell which the criminals had denied."
neither cool nor refreshing.
They shall wander to and fro between fire and hot boiling water.
For they lived in comfort before meeting this fate.
Then, O jinns and men, which of your Rabb’s favors will both of you deny?
This Book is revealed to you; let there be no hesitation in yourheart about it so that you may thereby warn the unbelievers andremind the believers.
Does it seem strange to the people that We revealed Our will to aman from among themselves, saying: "Warn mankind and give thegood news to the Believers that they are on sound footing withtheir Rabb?" The disbelievers say: "This man is indeed an obviousmagician!"
It is straightforward so that He may warn about the terrible punishment for the unbelievers from Him and give good news to the believers who do good deeds that they shall have a goodly reward,
This is revealed by the Compassionate, the Merciful (Allah):
a Book whose verses are well explained, a Qur'an in the Arabiclanguage for people who understand.
A giver of good news and admonition: yet most of the people turntheir backs and do not listen.
Thus have We revealed to you this Qur'an in Arabic, so that youmay warn the residents of the Mother City (Makkah) and itssuburbs, and forewarn them of the Day of assembly about whichthere is no doubt: when some will go to paradise and others tothe blazing fire.
surely this hellfire is one of mighty scourge,
a warning to mankind;
to any of you who chooses to go forward or to lag behind.
As for those who disbelieve their Rabb, there will be thepunishment of hell, which is an evil abode.
When they will be plunged into its fire, they shall hear itsroaring and boiling
as though bursting with rage. Every time a group is plungedtherein, its guards will ask: "Did not a Warner come to you?"
They will answer: "Yes indeed, a Warner did come to us, but werejected him and said, Allah has revealed nothing - you aremerely in gross error."
They will further say: "Had we only listened or used ourintelligence, we would have not been among the inmates of theblazing fire."
Thus shall they confess their sin; so away from the mercy ofAllah will be the dwellers of hell.
This is a proclamation for mankind: let them take warningtherefrom; let them know that He is the One and Only - worthy ofworship - and let the men of understanding learn a lesson.
I will turn away from My signs the eyes of those who are unjustlyarrogant in the land, so that even if they see each and everysign they will not believe in it. If they see the Right Waybefore them they will not follow it; but if they see a crookedway they will follow it; this is because they denied Ourrevelations and were heedless of them.
We send the Rasools only to proclaim good news and to give warnings but with false arguments the unbelievers seek to defeat the Truth, through mocking at My revelations and My warnings.
Though righteous people will not be held responsible forwrongdoers' actions, yet it is their duty to admonish them;perhaps they may refrain from evil deeds.
Leave those people alone, who take their religion as mere playand amusement and are deceived by the life of this world. However, keep on admonishing them with this (The Qur'an), lesttheir souls be damned by their own sinful deeds. They will nothave any protector or intercessor to rescue them from Allah, andif they seek to offer every imaginable ransom, it shall not beaccepted from them. Such are those who are damned by their ownsinful deeds. They will get boiling water to drink and painfultorture for their rejection of the Truth.
Whenever We have intended to destroy a town, it was because Wesent Our commandments to its people who were leading easy livesbut they showed disobedience; as a result Our judgement waspassed, and We razed that city to the ground.
O Children of Adam! Put on your adornment (decent proper dress)when you attend your Masjid at the time of every prayer. Eat anddrink, but do not be extravagant; surely He does not love theextravagant.
It is He who has created all kinds of plants, trellised anduntrellised, the palm trees, the field crops with produce ofdifferent kinds, the olives and pomegranates, similar in kind yetdifferent in taste. Eat of their fruit in their season and giveaway their Zakah on the harvest day. Do not be spendthrift, surely He does not love the spendthrifts.
O Children of Adam! Put on your adornment (decent proper dress)when you attend your Masjid at the time of every prayer. Eat anddrink, but do not be extravagant; surely He does not love theextravagant.
who are steadfast, sincere, obedient, and charitable, and whopray for forgiveness in the morning time.
He is the One Who created the heavens and the earth in sixperiods - at the time when His Throne was rested on the water -so that He may test to find out which of you is the best indeeds. Now if you tell them:" You shall indeed be raised up afterdeath," the unbelievers would certainly say: "This is nothing butsheer magic!"
We send down water from the sky according to a due measure, thenWe cause it to settle in the soil - you should know that if Weplease, We can certainly take it away
Allah has created from water every living creature: of them thereare some that creep upon their bellies, some that walk on twolegs, and yet some that walk on four; Allah creates what Hepleases; surely Allah has power over everything.
Do you not see how Allah sends down water from the sky whichpenetrates the earth and come out through springs? With it Hebrings forth a variety of crops with different colors, then theywither and you see them turning yellow, and then finally Hecrumbles them to dust. Surely, in this example, there is a lessonfor the people of understanding.
- which will neither pain their heads nor take away their senses.
He has made the two oceans apparently meeting together,
They shall have fruits of their own choice
Yet, between them is a barrier which they cannot cross.
and flesh of fowls that they may desire,
So, O jinns and men, which of your Rabb’s favors will both of you deny?
Game of the sea and its use as food is lawful for you and theseafarers, but the game of the land is forbidden as long as youare in Ihram (pilgrim garb). Have fear of Allah to whom you shallall be assembled.
If it be Our Will, We could turn it salty. Why then do you notgive thanks?
It is Allah Who created you from dust, then from a sperm-drop,then He made you pairs. No female conceives or delivers withoutHis knowledge. No long-lived man grows old or has his life cutshort but is written in a Book; surely all this is easy forAllah.

O believers! Do not offer your Salah when you are drunk until youknow what you are saying; nor after seminal emission, except whenyou are travelling, unless you wash your whole body. If you aresick, or on a journey, or one of you has used the toilet, or hashad contact with women (sexual relation with wives) and can findno water, then make Tayammum: take some clean earth and rub yourfaces and hands with it. Allah is Lenient, Forgiving.
O believers! When you rise up for Salah (prayer), wash your facesand your hands as far as the elbows, wipe your heads with wethands and wash your feet to the ankles. If you had an emission ofsemen, then take a full bath. However, if you are sick or on ajourney or you have used the toilet or you had intercourse withyour women (your wife) and you do not find any water then resortto Tayammum - find clean soil and rub your faces and hands withit. Allah does not wish to burden you; He only wishes to purifyyou and to perfect His favor upon you, so that you may bethankful.
When any giant wave covers them like a canopy, they pray to Allahwith all devotion making their faith pure for Him. But when Hedelivers them safely to land, some of them falter between beliefand unbelief. None reject Our revelations except the treacherousand the ungrateful.
When it is said to them: "Follow what Allah has revealed." Theyreply: "Nay! We will follow what our forefathers practiced."Well! Even if their forefathers had no sense at all and lackedguidance?
I will turn away from My signs the eyes of those who are unjustlyarrogant in the land, so that even if they see each and everysign they will not believe in it. If they see the Right Waybefore them they will not follow it; but if they see a crookedway they will follow it; this is because they denied Ourrevelations and were heedless of them.
Have you not seen those who, though forbidden to hold secretcounsels, persistently do what was forbidden? They hold secretcounsels among themselves for sin, hostility and disobedience tothe Rasool. Yet when they come to you, they greet you in wordswhich Allah does not greet you with, and say to themselves: "Whydoes Allah not punish us for what we say?" Hell is enough forthem, they shall burn in its flames, what an evil destination!
Surely those who are believers, and migrated and struggled in thepath of Allah, they can hope for the mercy of Allah; and Allah isForgiving, Merciful."
So their Rabb answers their prayers, saying: " I will not let thegood deed of any worker among you, whether a male or a female, bewasted. You are the offspring of one another. Those who had toleave their homes or were expelled therefrom, and those whosuffered persecution for My sake and fought and were killed: Iwill forgive them their sins and admit them into gardens beneathwhich the rivers flow; a prize from Allah, and Allah holds thefinest prize!"
He who emigrates in the path of Allah shall find numerous placesof refuge in the Earth and abundant resources. He who leaves hishome to migrate for Allah and His Rasool and dies on the way, hisreward becomes due and sure with Allah. Allah is Forgiving,Merciful.
Those who believed (embraced Islam), migrated and made Jihad(exerted their utmost struggle) with their wealth and theirpersons in the cause of Allah; as well as those who gave themasylum and help, are indeed the protecting friends of oneanother. As to those who believed (embraced Islam) but did notemigrate (to Dar-ul-Islam, the Islamic State), you are under noobligation to protect them until they emigrate; yet it is yourobligation to help them in the matters of faith if they ask foryour help, except against a people with whom you have a treaty.Allah is observant of all your actions.
Those who believed (embraced Islam) afterwards, migrated andjoined you in Jihad - they too are your brothers, althoughaccording to the Book of Allah the blood relatives have greaterrights on one other. Indeed Allah knows everything.
Those who believe (embrace Islam), leave their homes (migrate),and make Jihad with their wealth and persons in the cause ofAllah, have higher rank in the sight of Allah. It is they whowill be truly successful.
Their Rabb gives them good news of His mercy, His good pleasure, and paradise with everlasting bliss.
They will live therein forever. Surely it is Allah with Whom isthe mighty reward.
As for the first pioneers who accepted Islam from the Muhajir(immigrants) and Ansar (supporters in Madinah) and those whofollow them in good deeds, Allah is well pleased with them andthey are pleased with Him. He has prepared for them gardensbeneath which rivers flow, wherein they shall live forever: thatis the mighty achievement.
those who bear ills with patience and put their trust in theirRabb.
He will admit them to a place with which they shall be wellpleased; for Allah is All-Knowing, Most Lenient.
These are the people who, if We establish them in the land, willestablish Salah and pay Zakah, enjoin justice and forbid evil;the final decision of all affairs is in the hands of Allah.
In fact the sadaqat (Zakah) collection is for the poor, thehelpless, those employed to administer the funds, those whosehearts need to be won over to the truth, ransoming the captives, helping the destitute, in the Way of Allah and for the wayfarer. That is a duty enjoined by Allah; and Allah is All-Knowledgeable,Wise.
Behold, you are those who are being asked to give in the cause ofAllah. Yet some of you are stingy, whereas whoever is stingy toHis cause, is in fact stingy to himself. Allah is selfsufficient, it is you who are needy. If you turn away He willreplace you by some other folk; who will not be like you.
Those who remained behind (did not join the Tabuk expedition)were delighted to sit inactive behind Allah's Rasool, and theyhated to make Jihad with their goods and their persons in thecause of Allah. They said to each other "Do not go forth in theheat." Say to them: "The fire of hell is much more severe inheat." If only they could understand!
Let them laugh a little; much will they weep as a recompense forwhat they have earned.
From now on, if Allah brings you among them and any of them askyour permission to go forth for Jihad, say: "You shall never beallowed to go forth with me nor fight an enemy in my company. Youchose to sit inactive on the first occasion, therefore you shallnow stay with those who stay behind."
You shall never offer funeral prayer for any of them who dies, nor shall you attend their burial, for they have denied Allah andHis Rasool and died while they were transgressors.
Let neither their wealth nor their children dazzle you. Throughthese Allah wants to punish them in this world and let theirsouls depart while they are still disbelievers.
Whenever a Surah is revealed, saying: " Believe in Allah and makeJihad along with His Rasool," capable people among them ask youfor exemption, saying: "Please leave us with those who are tostay at home."
They preferred to be with those who remain behind, as a result, aseal was set upon their hearts so that they do not understand.
Those who believed (embraced Islam), migrated and made Jihad(exerted their utmost struggle) with their wealth and theirpersons in the cause of Allah; as well as those who gave themasylum and help, are indeed the protecting friends of oneanother. O believers! Do not be like the unbelievers who speak of thosebrethren of theirs who die during their travels on the earth orwhile engaged in fighting: "Had they but stayed with us theywould not have died or been killed." Allah makes such thinking acause of regret and anguish in their hearts. It is Allah whogives life and death. Allah is observant of all your actions.
If you should die or get killed in the cause of Allah, Hisforgiveness and mercy will be far better than all the riches youcould gather.
Whether you die or get killed, all of you will be brought beforeAllah.
Whether you die or get killed, all of you will be brought beforeAllah.
O Muhammad, it is a great Mercy of Allah that you are very gentlewith them; had you been rough or hard-hearted, they would havedeserted you. Therefore pardon them and ask Allah's forgivenessfor them. Consult them in the conduct of affairs; and when youmake a decision to do something, then put your trust in Allah(hold fast to your decision). Allah loves those who put theirtrust in Him.
If Allah helps you, then there is none who can overcome you. IfHe forsakes you, then who else is there other than Him who canhelp you? Therefore, In Allah let the believers put their trust.
It is not conceivable that any Prophet would hold back from thespoils of war; for anyone who holds back shall bring alongwhatever he has been withholding on the Day of Resurrection; thenevery soul shall be paid back in full what it has earned and theyshall not be dealt with unjustly.
Can it be conceivable that a person who is seeking the goodpleasure of Allah will behave like the one who has incurred thewrath of Allah and is ultimately doomed to Hell, which is an evilrefuge?
These two kinds of people have quite different levels in thesight of Allah; Allah is observant of all their actions.
Allah has done a great favor to the believers that He raisedamong them a Rasool from among themselves, reciting to them theRevelations of Allah, sanctifying them and teaching them the Bookand Wisdom, although before this they were in manifest error.
How is it that when you are afflicted with a loss, after youyourselves had inflicted losses twice as heavy upon your enemy inthe battle of Badr, you exclaimed: "Whose fault was that?" Say tothem: "It was your own fault," Allah has power over everything.
The misfortune which befell you when the two armies met in thebattle of Uhud was with the leave of Allah, so that He might knowthe true believers
and the hypocrites. When it was said to them (hypocrites): "Comefight for the cause of Allah or at least defend yourselves," theyreplied: "Had we known how to fight we would certainly come withyou." On that day they were nearer to unbelief than to belief;for they uttered with their mouths what was not in their hearts.Allah is quite aware of what they were concealing.
Such are the ones who, as they sat at home, said of theirbrothers: "Had they listened to us, they would not have beenkilled." Ask them: "Avert death from your own selves, when itcomes to you, if you speak the truth."
Never think of those who are slain in the cause of Allah as dead.Nay they are alive, and well provided for by their Rabb;
they are pleased with what Allah has given them and they are alsohappy to think that there is nothing to fear or to regret forthose believers whom they have left behind and who have not yetjoined them in their bliss.
They feel happy to have received Allah's grace and bounty andhave come to know that most surely Allah does not waste thereward of the believers.
O Prophet! Allah is all-sufficient for you and for the believerswho follow you.
For those who migrated for the sake of Allah after persecution,We will certainly provide them a good abode in this life and thereward of the hereafter will be much greater, if they but knewwhat a happy end awaits
those who bear ills with patience and put their trust in theirRabb.
Have you reflected on the case of thousands of people(Israelites) who fled their homes for fear of death? Allah saidto them: "Die" (gave them death). Then He gave them life again.Surely Allah is bountiful to mankind, but most of the people areungrateful.
Fight in the cause of Allah with those who fight against you, butdo not exceed the limits. Allah does not like transgressors.
Kill them wherever they confront you in combat and drive them outof the places from which they have driven you. Though killing isbad, creating mischief is worse than killing. Do not fight themwithin the precincts of the Sacred Mosque unless they attack youthere; but if they attack you put them to the sword; that is thepunishment for such unbelievers.
If they cease hostility, then surely Allah is Forgiving,Merciful.
Fight against them until there is no more disorder and Allah'ssupremacy is established. If they desist, let there be nohostility except against the oppressors.
The Sacred month, in which fighting is prohibited, is to berespected if the same is respected by the enemy: sacred thingstoo are subject to retaliation. Therefore, if anyone transgressesa prohibition and attacks you, retaliate with the same force.Fear Allah, and bear in mind that Allah is with the righteous.
Surely those who are believers, and migrated and struggled in thepath of Allah, they can hope for the mercy of Allah; and Allah isForgiving, Merciful."
O believers, fight in the path of Allah without fear of death andbear in mind that Allah hears and knows everything.
Do you think that you will enter paradise without going throughthe trial? Allah has not yet tested you to see who among youstrive hard for His cause and who show patience for His sake.
And what reason do you have not to fight in the cause of Allah,to rescue the helpless oppressed old men, women, and children whoare crying: "Our Rabb! Deliver us from this town whose people areoppressors; send us a protector by Your grace and send us ahelper from Your presence?"
Those who are believers fight in the cause of Allah and those whoare unbelievers fight in the cause of Taghut (forces of Shaitan):so fight against the helpers of Shaitan; surely, Shaitan's craftyschemes are very weak.
Have you not seen those who were told to restrain their handsfrom fighting, establish Salah (regular prayers) and pay Zakah(regular charity). Now when at length they are commanded tofight, lo! A group of them fear people as they should have fearedAllah, or even more than that, and say: "Our Rabb! Why have Youordered us to fight? Could you delay its implementation for awhile?" Tell them: "The enjoyment of this worldly life is short, life of the hereafter is much better for those who fear Allah, and rest assured that you will not be wronged equal to the fiberof a date-stone.
Therefore, O Muhammad, fight; in the path of Allah, you areaccountable for no one except for yourself. Urge the believers tofight, it may be that Allah will overthrow the might of theunbelievers, for Allah is the strongest in might and severe inpunishment.
O believers! Whoever among you renounce Islam let him do so; soonAllah will replace them with others whom He will love and theywill love Him, who will be humble towards the believers, mightyagainst the unbelievers, striving hard in the way of Allah, andwill have no fear of reproach from any critic. Now this is thegrace of Allah which He bestows on whom He pleases. Allah hasboundless knowledge.
Indeed Allah has purchased from the believers their persons andtheir wealth and in return has promised them paradise; they fightin the cause of Allah and slay and are slain. This is a truepromise which is binding on Him mentioned in Taurat (Torah), theInjeel (Gospel) and the Qur'an; and who is more true infulfilling his promise than Allah? Rejoice, therefore, in thebargain which you have made, and that is a mighty achievement.
What is the matter with you that you do not spend in the Way ofAllah, whereas to Allah belongs the inheritance of the heavensand the earth? Those of you who spent and fought in the Cause ofAllah before the victory, shall receive higher ranks of honorthan the others who spent and fought thereafter. Yet Allah haspromised you all a good reward, and Allah is aware of all youractions.
Indeed Allah loves those who fight for His Cause in battle arrayas if they were a solid wall.
March forth whether you are equipped lightly or heavily and makeJihad (exert your utmost) in the way of Allah with your wealthand your persons. That is best for you if you understand.
So their Rabb answers their prayers, saying: " I will not let thegood deed of any worker among you, whether a male or a female, bewasted. You are the offspring of one another. those who bear ills with patience and put their trust in theirRabb.
On the other hand, Allah is most surely forgiving andcompassionate towards those who had to leave their homes afterbeing persecuted because of their faith, struggled hard andremained steadfastly patient.
There are some among people, who say: "We believe in Allah;" yetwhen they suffer in the cause of Allah they confuse thepersecution of people with the punishment of Allah. But whenthere comes help in the shape of a victory from your Rabb, theyare sure to say: "We have always been with you." Is not Allahfully aware of what is in the hearts of the people of the world?
- those who have been unjustly expelled from their homes onlybecause they said, "Our Lord is Allah." O Prophet, tell them: If your fathers, your sons, your brothers, your spouses, your relatives, the wealth that you have acquired, the business in which you fear a loss, and the homes which youlike are dearer to you than Allah, His Rasool, and making Jihad(struggle) in His Way, then wait until Allah brings about Hisdecision. Allah does not guide the transgressors.
O Prophet, tell them: If your fathers, your sons, your brothers, your spouses, your relatives, the wealth that you have acquired, the business in which you fear a loss, and the homes which youlike are dearer to you than Allah, His Rasool, and making Jihad(struggle) in His Way, then wait until Allah brings about Hisdecision. Allah does not guide the transgressors.
O believers! What is the matter with you that when you are askedto march forth in the way of Allah, you cling to the earth? Doyou prefer the life of this world to the life of the hereafter? If it is so, then you should know that the comforts of this lifeare little compared to the life of the hereafter.
If you do not march forth, He will inflict on you a painfulpunishment and replace you with other people, and you cannot harmHim at all, for Allah has power over everything.
If you do not help the Prophet, it does not matter: Allah didhelp him when the unbelievers drove him out of his town, thesecond of the two, while the two were in the cave and (the enemycame to the opening of the cave) he said to his companion (AbuBakr, later the first of the rightly-guided caliphs), "Do notworry, Allah is with us." So Allah sent down his serenity on himand strengthened him with forces which you can not see, thus, Hemade the word of the unbelievers lowest, while words of Allahremain supreme. Allah is All-Mighty, All-Wise.
As for the hypocrites, if the gain would have been immediate andthe journey short, they would have certainly accompanied you, butthe long journey (in Tabuk expedition) was too hard for them. Tojustify their not accompanying you, they would even swear byAllah, "If we were able, we would certainly have marched withyou." By doing so, they are destroying their own souls, for Allahknows that they are liars.
Those who believed (embraced Islam), migrated and made Jihad(exerted their utmost struggle) with their wealth and theirpersons in the cause of Allah; as well as those who gave themasylum and help, are indeed the protecting friends of oneanother. Give generously for the cause of Allah and do not cast yourselvesinto destruction by your own hands. Be charitable: Allah lovesthose who are charitable.
Who will loan to Allah a beautiful loan which Allah will increasemany fold? Allah alone can decrease and increase wealth, and toHim you all shall return.
The parable of those who spend their wealth in the way of Allahis that of a grain that sprouts into seven ears, each bearing onehundred grains. Allah gives manifold increase to whom He wishes.Allah has boundless knowledge.
Those who spend their wealth in the cause of Allah and do notfollow their charity with reminders of their generosity or injurethe feeling of the recipient, shall get their reward from theirRabb; they shall have nothing to fear or to regret.
Kind words and forgiveness are better than charity followed byinjury. Allah is Self-sufficient, Forbearing.
O believers! Do not make your charity worthless by reminders ofyour generosity or by injury to the recipients feelings, likethose who spend their wealth to be seen by people and believeneither in Allah nor in the Last Day. Their parable is like ahard barren rock covered with thin layer of soil; a heavy rainfalls, leaving it just a bare stone. Such people will not gainany reward that they thought they had earned. Allah does notguide the unbelievers.
Allah has heard the statement of those who said: " Allah is poorand we are rich!" Their words are recorded and so is their unjustkillings of the Prophets." On the Day of Judgement, We shall say:"Taste now the torment of burning!
O believers! Indeed most of the (Jewish) rabbis and (Christian)priests misappropriate the wealth of people and hinder them fromthe way of Allah. To those who hoard gold and silver and do notspend it in the way of Allah, proclaim a painful punishment.
Likewise, they do not spend anything for the cause of Allah, beit small or large, or cut across a valley in Jihad, but iswritten down to their credit; so that Allah may reward them basedon the best of their deeds.
Allah gives you another example of two men: one of them is aslave, the property of the other, and has no power over anything;and the other man is one on whom We have bestowed Our bounty, from which he freely spends secretly and openly. Ask them: "Arethose two men equal?" Praise be to Allah - most of them do notunderstand this simple thing.

Who is the one that will give to Allah a goodly loan, so that Hemay increase it manifold to his credit and give him a liberalreward besides it.
Surely those who are believers, and migrated and struggled in thepath of Allah, they can hope for the mercy of Allah; and Allah isForgiving, Merciful."
except those who repent before you apprehend them, in such acase, you should know that Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.
O believers! Whoever among you renounce Islam let him do so; soonAllah will replace them with others whom He will love and theywill love Him, who will be humble towards the believers, mightyagainst the unbelievers, striving hard in the way of Allah, andwill have no fear of reproach from any critic. Have you made those who provide water to the pilgrims andmaintain the Masjid-al-Haram equal to those who believe in Allah, the Last Day and make Jihad (striving in the cause of Allah)? They are not equal in the sight of Allah, and Allah does notguide the wrongdoers.
Strive in the Way of Allah as you ought to strive with sincerityand discipline; He has chosen you and has not laid upon you anyhardship in the observance of your faith - the faith of yourfather Ibrahim (Abraham). He named you Muslims before in priorscriptures and in this (The Qur'an), so that His Rasool maytestify against you and you yourselves may testify against restof the mankind. Therefore, establish Salah, pay Zakah and holdfast to Allah; Who is your Protector - so what an excellentProtector and what a splendid Supporter!
As for those who strive in Our cause, We will surely guide themto Our ways; rest assured that Allah is with the righteous.
O believers! Do not make friendship with those who are enemies ofMine and yours. Would you show them friendship, when they havedenied the truth that has come to you and have driven the Rasooland yourselves out of your homes, simply because you believe inAllah, your Rabb? If it was indeed to strive in My way, and toseek My good pleasure that you left your homes, how can youbefriend in secret? I know all that you conceal, and all that youreveal. Any of you who does this, he indeed has gone astray fromthe Right Way.
If they overcome you, they would behave to you as enemies andstretch out their hands and their tongues towards you with evil, and they wish to see you become unbelievers.
On the Day of Resurrection, neither your relatives nor yourchildren shall avail you. Allah will judge between you, and He isobserving all your actions.
You have an excellent example in Ibrahim (Abraham) and hiscompanions. They said to their people plainly: "We are clear ofyou and your gods, whom you worship besides Allah. We renounceyou. Enmity and hate shall reign between us forever until youbelieve in Allah, the One and Only God." But do not emulate whatIbrahim said to his father: "I will pray for your forgiveness, although I have no power to get anything for you from Allah."Their collective prayer was: "Our Rabb! In You we have put ourtrust, to You we turn in repentance and to You is our final goal.
Our Rabb! Do not expose us to the plots of the unbelievers.Forgive us, our Rabb! You are the All-Mighty, the All-Wise."
Truly, in those there is an excellent example for everyone whoputs their hopes in Allah and the Last Day. He that gives no heedshould know that Allah is free of all wants, worthy of allpraise.
It may well be that Allah will put love between you and thosewith whom you are now at odds because of the order which is givento you, for Allah is All-Powerful, and Allah is Oft-Forgiving,Most Merciful.
Allah does not forbid you to be kind and equitable to those whohad neither fought against your faith nor driven you out of yourhomes. In fact Allah loves the equitable.
Allah only forbids you to make friendship with those who foughtyou on account of your faith and drove you out of your homes andbacked up others in your expulsion. Those who will take them forfriends are indeed the wrongdoers.
Those believers who stay at home - having no physical disability- are not equal to those who make Jihad (struggle) in the causeof Allah with their wealth and their persons. Allah has granted ahigher rank to those who make Jihad with their wealth and theirpersons than to those who stay at home. Though Allah has promiseda good reward for all, Allah has prepared a much richer rewardfor those who make Jihad for Him than for those who stay at home
- they have special higher ranks, forgiveness and mercy. Allah isForgiving, Merciful.
March forth whether you are equipped lightly or heavily and makeJihad (exert your utmost) in the way of Allah with your wealthand your persons. That is best for you if you understand.
Those who believe in Allah and the Last Day will never ask youfor exemption from fighting with their wealth and their persons.Allah is aware of those who are righteous.
But the Rasool and those who believe with him, make Jihad withtheir wealth and their persons. They are the ones who will haveall the goodness, and they are the ones who will be successful.
Allah has prepared for them gardens beneath which rivers flow, tolive therein forever: that is the greatest achievement.
The true believers are those who believe in Allah and His Rasool, then never doubt; and make Jihad (exert their efforts) with theirwealth and their persons in the cause of Allah. Such are the oneswho are truthful in their claim to be the believers.
O believers! Should I tell you of a bargain that will save youfrom a painful punishment?
It is to believe in Allah and His Rasool and strive your utmostin the cause of Allah with your wealth and your persons. That isbest for you, if you but knew it.
He will forgive you your sins and admit you to gardens beneathwhich rivers flow, and will lodge you in beautiful mansions inthe gardens of Eden, which will be a supreme achievement.
And yet another blessing which you love: help from Allah and aspeedy victory. So O Prophet, give this good news to thebelievers.
We shall put you to test until We know the valiant and theresolute among you, and test all that is said about you.
We shall put you to test until We know the valiant and theresolute among you, and test all that is said about you.
O believers! When you struggle in the way of Allah, investigatecarefully, and do not say to anyone who offers you a salutation:"You are not a believer" in order to seek worldly gain by this.Allah has abundant spoils for you. Remember that you yourselveswere in the same condition before, Allah has conferred His favorson you. Therefore, make a thorough investigation beforeconsidering someone an unbeliever. Allah is well aware of allyour actions.
Likewise, they do not spend anything for the cause of Allah, beit small or large, or cut across a valley in Jihad, but iswritten down to their credit; so that Allah may reward them basedon the best of their deeds.
Thus, have We revealed to you O Muhammad, a Spirit (inspired Book- The Qur'an) by Our command: while you did not know what is TheBook and what is the Iman (faith)? But We have made it (TheQur'an) a light whereby We guide those of Our servants whom Weplease; and surely you are guiding mankind to the Right Way
Then shown him the two high ways (good leading towards paradiseand evil leading towards hell)?
