Those who disbelieve and obstruct Allah's Way, He will rendertheir deeds fruitless.

47 : 2

As for those who believe and do good deeds and believe in what isrevealed to Muhammad - the truth from their Rabb - He will removefrom them their evils and improve their condition.

47 : 3

This is because the unbelievers follow falsehood, while thebelievers follow the truth from their Rabb. Thus, Allah citestheir similitudes for mankind.

man's fate on his own neck

17 : 13

We have fastened the fate of every man to his own neck, and onthe Day of Judgment We shall bring out for him a book spread wideopen,

Fate

Abu Lahab, of

111 : 1

Perish the hands of Abu Lahab! And perish he!

111 : 2

His wealth and whatever he earned did not avail him anything.

111 : 3

Soon he shall be burnt in a flaming fire (a pun on the meaning ofAbu Lahab, "father of flames"),

111 : 4

and his wife, the carrier of crackling fire wood,

111 : 5

shall have a rope of palm-leaf fibre around her neck.

Disbelievers, of

54 : 43

O Qureysh, are your unbelievers better than they were, or haveyou been granted an immunity in the Sacred Books?

54 : 44

Or, do they say: "Acting together, we can defend ourselves?"

54 : 45

Soon will their multitude be routed and put to flight.

54 : 46

Nay! The Hour of Judgment is the time promised to deal with them. That hour will be the most grievous and bitter.

Example of that of the wrong-doing generations of old

14 : 45

When you lived among those people who had wronged their souls, itwas explained to you how We dealt with them and We even describedfor you their examples."

Jihad in

9 : 51

O Prophet, tell them: "Nothing will happen to us except whatAllah has written for us; He is our protector;" and in Allah letthe believers put their trust.

9 : 52

Further tell them: "Can you expect for us anything other than twoexcellent things (victory or martyrdom)? But we are waiting forAllah to afflict you with punishment either from Himself or byour hands. So wait if you will; we too are waiting."

Lesson from that of 'Aad

54 : 18

Likewise the people of 'Ad did not believe then how terrible wasMy scourge and how clear My Warning!

54 : 19

We let loose on them a tornado, on the day of their bittermisfortune,

54 : 20

which snatched them off like trunks of uprooted palm-trees.

54 : 21

How terrible was My scourge and how clear My warning!

Lesson from that of the disbelieving generations of old, taking

54 : 51

O disbelievers, We have already destroyed many like you. Will younot take admonition?

64 : 5

Have you not heard of those who disbelieved before you? So theytasted the evil result of their deeds, and in the Hereafter thereshall be a painful punishment for them.

64 : 6

That is because, when their Rasools came to them with clearrevelations, they said: "Are human beings going to guide us?" Sothey disbelieved and paid no heed. Allah has no need of suchpeople. Allah is free of all needs, worthy of all praise.

Lesson from that of the people of Lot

54 : 33

Another example is the people of Lut (Lot) who disbelieved Ourwarning.

54 : 34

We let loose on them a stone-charged tornado which spared noneexcept Lut's household, whom We saved by early dawn

54 : 36

Lut did warn them of Our scourge but they doubted his warnings.

54 : 39

as if to say: "Now taste My punishment and the result ofdisbelieving My warning."

Lesson from that of the people of Pharaoh

54 : 41

My warnings also came to the people of Fir'on (Pharaoh).

54 : 42

They disbelieved all Our signs. Consequently, We seized them theway a mighty powerful competent would seize.

Lesson from that of Pharaoh for disobeying and rebelling against the Messenger of Allah

73 : 15

O mankind, We have sent towards you a Rasool, to bear witness foryou or against you, as We sent a Rasool towards Fir'on (Pharaoh)before you.

73 : 16

Fir'on disobeyed Our Rasool; so We seized him with a firm grip.

Lesson from that of Thamud

54 : 23

The people of Thamud disbelieved Our warning,

54 : 24

saying: "Are we to follow a human who stands alone among us? Thatwould surely be an error and madness.

54 : 25

Was he the only person among us to receive this warning? Nay! Heis indeed an insolent liar."

54 : 26

To Our Rasool Saleh, We said: "Tomorrow they shall find out whois an insolent liar.

54 : 27

We are going to send the she-camel as a trial for them. Therefore, watch them and have patience.

54 : 28

Tell them that the water must be shared between them and theshe-camel, and each will come to the water at its own turn.

54 : 29

At last the people of Thamud called out to one of theircompanions, who took the responsibility and hamstrung her.

54 : 30

Then how terrible was My scourge and how clear My warning!

54 : 31

We let loose on them one mighty blast and they became like thetrampled twigs used by a fence builder.

People of the Elephant, of the

105 : 1

Have you not considered how your Rabb dealt with the Army of theElephant (reference is made to Abraha, a Christian king of Yaman, who attacked Makkah with the army of elephants in the year of theProphet Muhammad's birth)?

105 : 2

Did He not make their treacherous plan a flop?

105 : 3

And send against them flocks of birds,

105 : 4

which pelted them with stones of baked clay,

105 : 5

thus rendered them like the chewed-up chaff.

Pharaoh's as lesson and warning

79 : 24

"I am your lord, the most high."

79 : 25

Consequently, Allah seized him for punishment, both in theHereafter and in this life.

79 : 26

Surely in this there is a lesson for the Godfearing.

Pharaoh's for mischief-making and transgression

89 : 10

And with Fir'on (Pharaoh) the owner of stakes?

89 : 11

They all transgressed beyond bounds in their cities,

89 : 12

and committed great mischief therein.

89 : 13

Therefore, your Rabb let loose on them His scourge of torment.

Sinful generations of old, considering that of the

89 : 6

Have you not seen how your Rabb dealt with 'Ad?

Thamud's for mischief-making and transgression

89 : 9

And with the people of Thamud who hewed out their dwellings inthe rocks of the valley?

Troops of Abraha, of the

Wife of Abu Lahab, of the

and his wife, the carrier of crackling fire wood,

111 : 5

shall have a rope of palm-leaf fibre around her neck.

Father/fathers

Disbelieving ones as friends and protectors, taking

9 : 23

O believers! Do not take your fathers and your brothers as yourfriends if they prefer Kufr (unbelief) over Iman (belief); forthose who turn away from this commandment shall be consideredwrongdoers.

Marriage forbidden with wives of one's

4 : 22

Do not marry those women whom your fathers had married, - exceptwhat happened prior to this commandment. - Surely it wasshocking, disgusting, and an evil practice.

Naming adopted sons after their

33 : 5

Name your adopted sons after their fathers; that is more just inthe sight of Allah, and if you don't know who their fathers are, then call them as your brothers in faith and your friends. Thereis no blame on you for an unintentional mistake, but you will beheld responsible for what you do with the intention of yourhearts; Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.

Fault-finders, The Reproach of

Fearing

5 : 54

O believers! Whoever among you renounce Islam let him do so; soonAllah will replace them with others whom He will love and theywill love Him, who will be humble towards the believers, mightyagainst the unbelievers, striving hard in the way of Allah, andwill have no fear of reproach from any critic. Now this is thegrace of Allah which He bestows on whom He pleases. Allah hasboundless knowledge.

Faults

Overlooking those of half-hearted Believers

3 : 159

O Muhammad, it is a great Mercy of Allah that you are very gentlewith them; had you been rough or hard-hearted, they would havedeserted you. Therefore pardon them and ask Allah's forgivenessfor them. Consult them in the conduct of affairs; and when youmake a decision to do something, then put your trust in Allah(hold fast to your decision). Allah loves those who put theirtrust in Him.
