I was the leader of the delegation of Banu al-Muntafiq or (thenarrator doubted) I was among the delegation of Banu al-Muntafiqthat came to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him). When wereached the Prophet, we did not find him in his house. We foundthere Aisha, the Mother of the Believers. She ordered that a dishcalled Khazirah should be prepared for us. It was then prepared.A tray containing dates was then presented to us. (The narratorQutaybah did not mention the word qina', tray). Then theMessenger of Allah (peace be upon him) came. He asked: Hasanything been served to you or ordered for you? We replied: Yes,Messenger of Allah. While we were sitting in the company of theMessenger of Allah (peace be upon him) we suddenly saw that ashepherd was driving a herd of sheep to their fold. He had withhim a newly-born lamb that was crying. He (the Prophet) askedhim: What did it bear, O so and so? He replied: A ewe. He thensaid: Slaughter for us in its place a sheep. Do not think that weare slaughtering it for you. We have one hundred sheep and we donot want their number to increase. Whenever a ewe is born, weslaughter a sheep in its place. (The narrator says that theProphet (peace be upon him) used the word la tahsabanna, do notthink). I (the narrator Laqit) then said: Messenger of Allah, Ihave a wife who has something (wrong) in her tongue, i.e. she isinsolent. He said: Then divorce her. I said: Messenger of Allah,she had company with me and I have children from her. He said:Then ask her (to obey you). If there is something good in her,she will do so (obey); and do not beat your wife as you beat yourslave-girl. I said: Messenger of Allah, tell me about ablution.He said: Perform ablution in full and make the fingers go throughthe beard and snuff with water well except when you are fasting.

I came in the deputation of Banu al-Muntafiq to the Apostle ofAllah (peace be upon him). He then narrated the rest of thetradition. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: la tahsibanna(do not think) and did not say: la tahsabanna (do not think).

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Snuff up water freelyunless you are fasting.

I was one of those who washed Umm Kulthum, daughter of theProphet (peace be upon him), when she died. The Apostle of Allah(peace be upon him) first gave us lower garment, then shirt, thenhead-wear, then cloak (which covers the whole body), and then shewas shrouded in another garment. She said: The Apostle of Allah(peace be upon him) was sitting at the door, and he had shroudwith him. He gave us the garments one by one.

Al-Husayn ibn Ali was (sitting) in the lap of the Apostle ofAllah (peace be upon him). He passed water on him. I said: Put on(another) clothe, and give me your wrapper to wash. He said: Theurine of a female child should be washed (thoroughly) and theurine of a male child should be sprinkled over.
