AbdulHamid, a client of Banu Hashim, said that his mother whoserved some of the daughters of the Prophet (peace be upon him)told him that one of the daughters of the Prophet (peace be uponhim) said that the Prophet (peace be upon him) used to teach hersaying: Say in the morning: Glory be to Allah, and I begin withpraise of Him; there is no power but in Allah ; what Allah willscomes to pass and what He does not will does not come to pass; Iknow that Allah is Omnipotent and that Allah has comprehendedeverything in knowledge" ; for whoever says it in the morningwill be guarded till the evening, and whoever says it in theevening will be guarded till the morning.
I asked the Prophet (peace be upon him) and said: Apostle ofAllah! we live in a cold land in which we do heavy work and wemake a liquor from wheat to get strength from if for our work andto stand the cold of our country. He asked: Is it intoxicating?I replied: Yes. He said: You must avoid it. I said: The peoplewill not abandon it. He said: If they do not abandon it, fightwith them.
Hassan ibn Atiyyah said: Makhul and Ibn Zakariyya went to Khalidibn Ma'dan, and I also went along with them. He reported atradition on the authority of Jubayr ibn Nufayr. He said: Go withus to Dhu Mikhbar, a man from the Companions of the Prophet(peace be upon him). We came to him and Jubayr asked him aboutpeace. He said: I heard the Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him)say: You will make a secure peace with the Byzantines, then youand they will fight an enemy behind you.
A man of ad-Dabab, said: When the Prophet (peace be upon him)became free from the people of Badr I brought to him a colt of mymare called al-Qarha' I said: Muhammad, I have brought a colt ofa al-Qarha' , so that you may take it. He said: I have no need ofit. If you wish that I give you a select coat of mail from (thespoils of) Badr, I shall do it. I said: I cannot give you today acolt in exchange. He said: Then I have no need of it.
Mutayr said: I heard a man say: I heard the Apostle of Allah(peace be upon him) in the Farewell Pilgrimage. He was commandingand prohibiting them (the people). He said: O Allah, did I givefull information? They said: Yes. He said: When the Qurayshquarrel about the rule among themselves, and the presents becomebribery, them leave them. The people were asked: Who was he (whonarrated this tradition)? They said: This was Dhul-Zawa'id, aCompanion of the Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him).
Ibn Abbas reported that Dhuwayb, father of Qabisah, (Allah bepleased with him) narrated to him that Allah's Messenger (peacebe upon him) sent under his charge the sacrificial camels, andsaid: If any of these is completely exhausted and you apprehendedits death, then slaughter it, then dip its hoofs in its blood andimprint it on its hump; but neither you nor any one of yourcomrades should eat it.
Mansur al-Kalbi said: Dihyah ibn Khalifah once went out from avillage of Damascus at as much distance as it measures betweenAqabah and al-Fustat during Ramadan; and that is three miles. Hethen broke his fast and the people broke their fast along withhim. But some of them disliked to break their fast. When he cameback to his village, he said: I swear by Allah, today I witnesseda thing of which I could not even think to see. The peopledetested the way of the Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him) andhis Companions. He said this to those who fasted. At this momenthe said: O Allah, make me die.
The Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him) was brought some piecesof fine Egyptian linen and he gave me one and said: Divide itinto two; cut one of the pieces into a shirt and give the otherto your wife for veil. Then when he turned away, he said: Andorder your wife to wear a garment below it and not show herfigure.
Al-Miqdad went to Baqi' al-Khabkhabah for a certain need. Hefound a mouse taking out a dinar from a hole. It then continuedto take out dinars one by one until it took out seventeen dinars.It then took out a red purse containing a dinar. There were thuseighteen dinars. He took them to the Prophet (peace be upon him),informed him and said to him: Take its sadaqah. The Prophet(peace be upon him) asked him: Did you extend your hand towardthe hole? He replied: No. The Apostle of Allah (peace be uponhim) then said: May Allah bless you in it.
We came to the Prophet (peace be upon him) and asked him for somecorn. He said: Go, Umar, and give them. He ascended with us aroom upstairs, took a key from his apartment and opened it.
