Then we would pray along with the Apostle of Allah(peace be upon him) and return through Batn Bathan to our house.
Allah's Apostle prayed facing Baitul-Maqdis for sixteen or seventeen months but he loved to face the Ka'ba (at Mecca) so Allah revealed: "Verily, We have seen the turning of your face to the heaven!" (2.144) So the Prophet faced the Ka'ba and the fools amongst the people namely "the Jews" said, "What has turned them from their Qibla (Baitul-Maqdis) which they formerly observed" (Allah revealed): "Say: 'To Allah belongs the East and the West. He guides whom he will to a straight path'." (2.142) A man prayed with the Prophet (facing the Ka'ba) and went out. He saw some of the Ansar praying the 'Asr prayer with their faces towards Baitul-Maqdis, he said, "I bear witness that I prayed with Allah's Apostle facing the Ka'ba." So all the people turned their faces towards the Ka'ba.

He put aside a half, i.e.eighteen lots, for the Muslims. Each lot comprised one hundredshares, and the Prophet (peace be upon him) was with them. Hereceived a share like the share of one of them. The Apostle ofAllah (peace be upon him) separated eighteen lots, that is, half, for his future needs and whatever befell the Muslims. These wereal-Watih, al-Kutaybah, as-Salalim and their colleagues. When allthis property came in the possession of the Prophet (peace beupon him) and of the Muslims, they did not have sufficientlabourers to work on it. He said this three times. He then passed by the graves ofMuslims. He said: They received abundant good. The Apostle ofAllah (peace be upon him) suddenly saw a man walking in shoesbetween the graves. He said: O man, wearing the shoes! Woe tothee! Take off thy shoes. So the man looked (round), When herecognized the Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him), he took themoff and threw them away.
A man from the Ansar called Basrah said: I married a virgin womanin her veil. When I entered upon her, I found her pregnant. (Imentioned this to the Prophet). When she has begotten (achild), flog her (according to the version of al-Hasan). Theversion of Ibn AbusSari has: You people, flog her, or said:inflict hard punishment on him.

Aisha kept Bilal engaged in amatter which she asked him till the day was bright and it becamefairly light. Bilal then stood up and called him to prayer andcalled him repeatedly. The Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him)did not yet come out. Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him) said: He who revived a Sunnah out of my Sunan, which has died after me, for him is the reward like the reward of those who acted upon it, without any decrease in that reward. He who introduced some evil innovation which Allah and His Messenger did not approve has (a burden of sin upon him) like the sins of one who acted according to it, without their sins being mitigated thereby in the least.

That Kuraib, the freed slave of Ibn Abbas told him that Ibn Abbas, 'Abdur-Rahman bin Azhar and Al-Miswar bin Makhrama sent him to 'Aisha saying, "Pay her our greetings and ask her about our offering of the two-Rak'at after 'Asr Prayer, and tell her that we have been informed that you offer these two Rakat while we have heard that the Prophet had forbidden their offering." Ibn 'Abbas said, "I and 'Umar used to beat the people for their offering them." Kuraib added, "I entered upon her and delivered their message to her. She said, 'Ask Um Salama.' So, I informed them (of 'Aisha's answer) and they sent me to Um Salama for the same purpose as they sent me to 'Aisha. Um Salama replied, 'I heard the Prophet forbidding the offering of these two Rakat. Once the Prophet offered the 'Asr prayer, and then came to me. And at that time some Ansari women from the Tribe of Banu Haram were with me. Then (the Prophet ) offered those two Rakat, and I sent my (lady) servant to him, saying, 'Stand beside him and say (to him): Um Salama says, "O Allah's Apostle! Didn't I hear you forbidding the offering of these two Rakat (after the Asr prayer yet I see you offering them?" And if he beckons to you with his hand, then wait behind.' So the lady slave did that and the Prophet beckoned her with his hand, and she stayed behind, and when the Prophet finished his prayer, he said, 'O the daughter of Abu Umaiya (i.e. Um Salama), you were asking me about these two Rakat after the 'Asr prayer. In fact, some people from the tribe of 'Abdul Qais came to me to embrace Islam and busied me so much that I did not offer the two Rakat which were offered after Zuhr compulsory prayer, and these two Rakat (you have seen me offering) make up for those.' When the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) appointed anyoneas leader of an army or detachment he would especially exhort himto fear Allah and to be good to the Muslims who were with him. He would say: Fight in the name of Allah and in the cause ofAllah. Fight against those who do not believe in Allah. Wage aholy war: do not embezzle the spoils, do not break your pledge,do not mutilate (the dead) bodies and do not kill the children. When you meet enemies who are polytheists, invite them to threecourses of action. If they respond to any one of these, you alsoaccept it and restrain yourself from doing them any harm. Invitethem to (accept) Islam; if they respond to you, accept it fromthem and desist from fighting against them. Then invite them tomigrate from their lands to the land of Muhajirs and inform themthat, if they do so, they shall have all the privileges andobligations of the Muhajirs. If they refuse to migrate, tell themthat they will have the status of Bedouin Muslims and will besubjected to the Commands of Allah like other Muslims, but theywill not receive any share from the spoils of war or Fay' exceptwhen they actually fight with the Muslims (against thenonbelievers). Abu Juhaim replied, "Allah's Apostle said, 'If the person who passes in front of another person in prayer knew the magnitude of his sin he would prefer to wait for 40 (days, months or years) rather than to pass in front of him." Busr said, "Later on Zaid bin Khalid fell ill and we called on him. To our surprise we saw a curtain decorated with pictures in his house. I said to Ubaidullah Al-Khaulani, "Didn't he (i.e. Zaid) tell us about the (prohibition of) pictures?" He said, "But he excepted the embroidery on garments. Didn't you hear him?" I said, "No." He said, "Yes, he did."
