We were in the company of the Apostle of Allah (peace be uponhim) during one of his journeys. He overslept abandoning themorning prayer until the sun had arisen. The Apostle of Allah(peace be upon him) awoke and said: Go away from this place. Hethen commanded Bilal to call for prayer. He called for prayer. They (the people) performed ablution and offered two rak'ahs ofthe morning prayer (sunnah prayer). The Apostle of Allah(peace be upon him) laughed and did not say anything.
AbdurRahman ibn Hasanah reported: I and Amr ibn al-'As went tothe Prophet (peace be upon him). He came out with a leathershield (in his hand). He covered himself with it and urinated. Then we said: Look at him. He is urinating as a woman does. TheProphet (peace be upon him), heard this and said: Do you not knowwhat befell a person from amongst Banu Isra'il (the children ofIsrael)? When urine fell on them, they would cut off the placewhere the urine fell; but he (that person) forbade them (to doso), and was punished in his grave.
One day when a man got up and spoke at length Amr ibn al-'As saidIf he had been moderate in what he said: It would have beenbetter for him. I heard the Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him)say: I think (or, I have been commanded) that I should be briefin what I say, for brevity is better.

Ibn Shamasah said: We went to Amr ibn al-'As and he was about todie. He wept for a long time and turned his face towards thewall. His son said: Did the Messenger of Allah (peace be uponhim) not give you tidings of this? Did the Messenger of Allah(peace be upon him) not give you tidings of this? He (thenarrator) said: He turned his face (towards the audience) andsaid: The best thing which we can count upon is the testimonythat there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the Apostleof Allah. Verily I have passed through three phases. (The firstwas one) in which I found myself averse to none else more than Iwas averse to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) andthere was no other desire stronger in me than the one that Ishould overpower him and kill him. Had I died in this state, Ishould have been definitely one of the denizens of Fire. WhenAllah instilled the love of Islam in my heart, I came to theApostle (peace be upon him) and said: Stretch out your right handso that I may pledge my allegiance to you. He stretched out hisright hand. I withdrew my hand. He (the Holy Prophet) said: Whathas happened to you, O' Amr? I replied: I intend to lay down acondition. He asked: What condition do you intend to putforward? I said: I should be granted pardon. He (the HolyProphet) observed: Are you not aware of the fact that Islam wipesout all the previous (misdeeds)? Verily migration wipes out allthe previous (misdeeds) and verily the pilgrimage wipes out allthe (previous) misdeeds. After that no one was more dear to methan the Messenger of Allah and none was more sublime in my eyesthan he. Never could I pluck up courage to catch a full glimpseof his face due to its splendour. So if I am asked to describehis features, I cannot do that for I have not eyed him fully. HadI died in this state I had every reason to hope that I shouldhave been among the dwellers of Paradise. Then we wereresponsible for certain things (in the light of which) I amunable to know what is in store for me. When I die, let neitherfemale mourner nor fire accompany me. When you bury me, fill mygrave well with earth, then stand around it for a time which acamel is slaughtered and its meat is distributed so that I mayenjoy your intimacy and (in your company) ascertain what answer Ican give to the messengers (angels) of Allah.

No wrongdoer must do wrong to himself, no wrongdoer must do wrong to his child, nor any child to his parent. The devil has despaired of ever being worshipped in this town of yours, but he will receive obedience in your actions which you consider of little importance and will be satisfied with that."

I heard the Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him) say in theFarewell Pilgrimage: "Lo, all claims to usury of the pre-Islamicperiod have been abolished. You shall have your capital sums, deal not unjustly and you shall not be dealt with unjustly. Lo,all claims for blood-vengeance belonging to the pre-Islamicperiod have been abolished. The first of those murdered among uswhose blood-vengeance I remit is al-Harith ibn AbdulMuttalib, whosuckled among Banu Layth and killed by Hudhayl." He then said: OAllah, have I conveyed the message? They said: Yes, saying itthree times. He then said: O Allah, be witness, saying it threetimes.
Amr heard the Prophet (peace be upon him) say in his farewell address on the eve of his Last Pilgrimage, after he had glorified and praised Allah, he cautioned his followers: 'Listen! Treat women kindly; they are like prisoners in your hands. Beyond this you do not owe anything from them. Should they be guilty of flagrant misbehaviour, you may remove them from your beds, and beat them but do not inflict upon them any severe punishment. Then if they obey you, do not have recourse to anything else against them. Listen! You have your rights upon your wives and they have their rights upon you. Your right is that they shall not allow anyone you dislike, to trample your bed and do not permit those whom you dislike to enter your home. Their right is that you should treat them well in the matter of food and clothing.

The Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him) called me. He intendedto send me with some goods to AbuSufyan to distribute among theQuraysh at Mecca after the conquest. He said: Search for acompanion. So weproceeded, and when I reached al-Abwa', he said to me: I havesome work with my people at Waddan, so stay here till I comeback. I said: Do not lose your way. When he turned his back, Irecalled the words of the Prophet (peace be upon him). So I rodemy camel and galloped without stopping. When I reached al-Asafir,he was pursuing me with a group of men. So I galloped and forgedahead of him. When he saw me that I had outstripped him, theyreturned and he came to me. He said to me: I had some work withmy people. I said: Yes. I heard 'Aisha saying, "We set out (from Medina) along with Allah's Apostle five days before the end of Dhul-Qa'da with the intention of performing Hajj only. When we approached Mecca, Allah's Apostle ordered those who had no Hadi along with them to finish the Ihram after performing Tawaf of the Ka'ba, (Safa and Marwa)." In the morning the Prophet noticed the tents. He said, 'What is this?" He was told of the whole situation. Then the Prophet said, "Do you think that they intended to do righteousness by doing this?" He therefore abandoned the Itikaf in that month and practiced Itikaf for ten days in the month of Shawwal."

When Allah's Apostle came, she told him about it. The Prophet said to her, "Buy her (i.e. Buraira) and manumit her, for the Wala is for the one who manumits." Then Allah's Apostle ascended the pulpit and said, "What about those people who stipulate conditions which are not in Allah's lws? Whoever stipulates such conditions as are not in Allah's laws, then those conditions are invalid even if he stipulated a hundred such conditions."
I heard 'Aisha saying, "When the news of the martyrdom of Ibn Haritha, Ja'far bin Abi Talib and 'Abdullah bin Rawaka reached, Allah's Apostle sat with sorrow explicit on his face." 'Aisha added, "I was then peeping through a chink in the door. A man came to him and said, 'O Allah's Apostle! The women of Ja'far are crying.' Thereupon the Prophet told him to forbid them to do so. So the man went away and returned saying, 'I forbade them but they did not listen to me.' The Prophet ordered him again to go (and forbid them). He went again and came saying, 'By Allah, they overpowered me (i.e. did not listen to me).' " 'Aisha said that Allah's Apostle said (to him), "Go and throw dust into their mouths." Aisha added, "I said, May Allah put your nose in the dust! By Allah, neither have you done what you have been ordered, nor have you relieved Allah's Apostle from trouble."
A Jewess came to ask 'Aisha (the wife of the Prophet) about something. She said to her, "May Allah give you refuge from the punishment of the grave." So 'Aisha' asked Allah's Apostle, "Would the people be punished in their graves?" Allah's Apostle after seeking refuge with Allah from the punishment of the grave (and thus replied in the affirmative). Then one day, Allah's Apostle rode to go to some place but the sun eclipsed. He returned in the forenoon and passed through the rear of the dwellings (of his wives) and stood for the (eclipse) prayer, and the people stood behind him. He stood up for a long period and then performed a prolonged bowing which was shorter than the first bowing. Then he raised his head and prostrated. Then he stood up (for the second Raka) for a long while but the standing was shorter than that of the first Raka. Then he performed a prolonged bowing which was shorter than the first one. Then he raised his head and prostrated. Then he stood up for a long time but shorter than the first. Then he performed a prolonged bowing but shorter than the first. Then he raised his head and prostrated and finished the prayer and (then delivered the sermon and) said as much as Allah wished. And then he ordered the people to seek refuge with Allah from the punishment of the grave.
A Jewess came to 'Aisha to ask her about something and then she said, "May Allah give you refuge from the punishment of the grave." So 'Aisha asked Allah's Apostle, "Would the people be punished in their graves?" Allah's Apostle asked Allah's refuge from the punishment of the grave (indicating an affirmative reply). Then one day Allah's Apostle rode (to leave for some place) but the sun eclipsed. He returned on the forenoon and passed through the rear of the dwellings (of his wives) and stood up and started offering the (eclipse) prayer and the people stood behind him. He stood for a long period and then performed a long bowing and then stood straight for a long period which was shorter than that of the first standing, then he performed a prolonged bowing which was shorter than the first bowing, then he raised his head and prostrated for a long time and then stood up (for the second Raka) for a long while, but the standing was shorter than the standing of the first Raka. Then he performed a prolonged bowing which was shorter than that of the first one. He then stood up for a long time but shorter than the first, then again performed a long bowing which was shorter than the first and then prostrated for a shorter while than that of the first prostration. Then he finished the prayer and delivered the sermon and) said what Allah wished; and ordered the people to seek refuge with Allah from the punishment of the grave.
I heard 'Aisha saying, "Five days before the end of Dhul-Qa'da we set out from Medina in the company of Allah's Apostle with the intention of performing Hajj only. When we approached Mecca, Allah's Apostle ordered those who had no Hadi with them to finish their Ihram after performing Tawaf of the Ka'ba and (Sa'i) and between Safa and Marwa." 'Aisha added, "On the day of Nahr (slaughtering of sacrifice) beef was brought to us. I asked, 'What is this?' The reply was, 'Allah's Apostle (p.b.u.h) has slaughtered (sacrifices) on behalf of his wives.' "
Buraira went to 'Aisha, the mother of the faithful believers to seek her help in her emancipation. 'Aisha said to her, "If your masters agree, I will pay them your price in a lump sum and manumit you." Buraira mentioned that offer to her masters but they refused to sell her unless the Wala' was for them. 'Aisha told Allah's Apostle about it. He said, "Buy and manumit her as the Wala' is for the liberator."
That 'Aisha the wife of the Prophet told her uncle that once, while the Prophet was in her house, she heard a man asking Hafsa's permission to enter her house. 'Aisha said, "I said, 'O Allah's Apostle! I think the man is Hafsa's foster uncle.' " 'Aisha added, "O Allah's Apostle! There is a man asking the permission to enter your house." Allah's Apostle replied, "I think the man is Hafsa's foster uncle." 'Aisha said, "If so-and-so were living (i.e. her foster uncle) would he be allowed to visit me?" Allah's Apostle said, "Yes, he would, as the foster relations are treated like blood relations (in marital affairs)."
'Aisha, the wife of the Prophet told her that once Allah's Apostle was with her and she heard somebody asking permission to enter Hafsa's house. She said, "O Allah's Apostle! This man is asking permission to enter your house." Allah's Apostle replied, "I think he is so-and-so (meaning the foster uncle of Hafsa). What is rendered illegal because of blood relations, is also rendered illegal because of the corresponding foster-relations."
Allah's Apostle used to practice Itikaf every year in the month of Ramadan. And after offering the morning prayer, he used to enter the place of his Itikaf. 'Aisha asked his permission to let her practice Itikaf and he allowed her, and so she pitched a tent in the mosque. When Hafsa heard of that, she also pitched a tent (for herself), and when Zainab heard of that, she too pitched another tent. When, in the morning, Allah's Apostle had finished the morning prayer, he saw four tents and asked, "What is this?" He was informed about it. He then said, "What made them do this? Is it righteousness? Remove the tents, for I do not want to see them." So, the tents were removed. The Prophet did not perform Itikaf that year in the month of Ramadan, but did it in the last ten days of Shawwal.
Allah's Apostle mentioned that he would practice Itikaf in the last ten days of Ramadan. 'Aisha asked his permission to perform Itikaf and he permitted her. Hafsa asked 'Aisha to take his permission for her, and she did so. When Zainab bint Jahsh saw that, she ordered a tent to be pitched for her and it was pitched for her. Allah's Apostle used to proceed to his tent after the prayer. So, he saw the tents and asked, "What is this?" He was told that those were the tents of 'Aisha, Hafsa, and Zainab. Allah's Apostle said, "Is it righteousness which they intended by doing so? I am not going to perform Itikaf." So he returned home. When the fasting month was over, he performed Itikar for ten days in the month of Shawwal.
All came to the gate of the courtyard (of the Mosque) and drank (water) while he was standing and said, "Some people dislike to drink while standing, but I saw the Prophet doing (drinking water) as you have seen me doing now."
'Ali offered the Zuhr prayer and then sat down in the wide courtyard (of the Mosque) of Kufa in order to deal with the affairs of the people till the 'Asr prayer became due. Then water was brought to him and he drank of it, washed his face, hands, head and feet. Then he stood up and drank the remaining water while he was standing. and said, "Some people dislike to drink water while standing though the Prophet did as I have just done."
I heard the Prophet saying, "The person who will have the least punishment from amongst the Hell Fire people on the Day of Resurrection, will be a man under whose arch of the feet a smoldering ember will be placed so that his brain will boil because of it."
I heard Allah's Apostle saying, 'Both legal and illegal things are evident but in between them there are doubtful (suspicious) things and most of the people have no knowledge about them. So whoever saves himself from these suspicious things saves his religion and his honor. And whoever indulges in these suspicious things is like a shepherd who grazes (his animals) near the Hima (private pasture) of someone else and at any moment he is liable to get in it. (O people!) Beware! Every king has a Hima and the Hima of Allah on the earth is His illegal (forbidden) things. Beware! There is a piece of flesh in the body if it becomes good (reformed) the whole body becomes good but if it gets spoilt the whole body gets spoilt and that is the heart.
The Prophet said, "Straighten your rows or Allah will alter your faces."
The Prophet said "Both legal and illegal things are obvious, and in between them are (suspicious) doubtful matters. So whoever forsakes those doubtful things lest he may commit a sin, will definitely avoid what is clearly illegal; and whoever indulges in these (suspicious) doubtful things bravely, is likely to commit what is clearly illegal. Sins are Allah's Hima (i.e. private pasture) and whoever pastures (his sheep) near it, is likely to get in it at any moment."
The Prophet said, "The example of the person abiding by Allah's order and restrictions in comparison to those who violate them is like the example of those persons who drew lots for their seats in a boat. Some of them got seats in the upper part, and the others in the lower. When the latter needed water, they had to go up to bring water (and that troubled the others), so they said, 'Let us make a hole in our share of the ship (and get water) saving those who are above us from troubling them.' So, if the people in the upper part left the others do what they had suggested, all the people of the ship would be destroyed, but if they prevented them, both parties would be safe."
that his father took him to Allah's Apostle and said, "I have given this son of mine a slave." The Prophet asked, "Have you given all your sons the like?" He replied in the negative. The Prophet said, "Take back your gift then."
My mother asked my father to present me a gift from his property; and he gave it to me after some hesitation. My mother said that she would not be satisfied unless the Prophet was made a witness to it. I being a young boy, my father held me by the hand and took me to the Prophet. He said to the Prophet, "His mother, bint Rawaha, requested me to give this boy a gift." The Prophet said, "Do you have other sons besides him?" He said, "Yes." The Prophet said, "Do not make me a witness for injustice." Narrated Ash-Sha'bi that the Prophet said, "I will not become a witness for injustice."
The Prophet said, "The example of the person abiding by Allah's orders and limits (or the one who abides by the limits and regulations prescribed by Allah) in comparison to the ones who do wrong and violate Allah's limits and orders is like the example of people drawing lots for seats in a boat. Some of them got seats in the upper part while the others in the lower part; those in the lower part have to pass by those in the upper one to get water, and that troubled the latter. One of them (i.e. the people in the lower part) took an ax and started making a hole in the bottom of the boat. The people of the upper part came and asked him, (saying), 'What is wrong with you?' He replied, "You have been troubled much by my (coming up to you), and I have to get water.' Now if they prevent him from doing that they will save him and themselves, but if they leave him (to do what he wants), they will destroy him and themselves."
Abdullah bin Rawaha fell down unconscious and his sister 'Amra started crying and was saying loudly, "O Jabala! Oh so-and-so! Oh so-and-so! and went on calling him by his (good ) qualities one by one). When he came to his senses, he said (to his sister), "Whenever you said something, I was asked, 'Are you really so (i.e. as she says)?' "
Allah's Apostle said, "You see the believers as regards their being merciful among themselves and showing love among themselves and being kind, resembling one body, so that, if any part of the body is not well then the whole body shares the sleeplessness (insomnia) and fever with it."
I heard the Prophet saying, "The least punished person of the (Hell) Fire people on the Day of Resurrection will be a man under whose arch of the feet two smoldering embers will be placed, because of which his brain will boil just like Al-Mirjal (copper vessel) or a Qum-qum (narrow-necked vessel) is boiling with water."
