Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him) said, "A believer is stamped with all the characteristics except treachery and falsehood."
Ahmad transmitted it, and in Shu'ab al-Iman Bayhaqi transmitted it on the authority of Sa'd ibn AbuWaqqas.
The Companions of the Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him)mentioned this word before him. The Apostle of Allah (peace beupon him) said: Listen, listen! Wearing old clothes is a part offaith, wearing old clothes is a part of faith.
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Allah likes most two drops: One of tears due to fear of Allah and a drop of blood shed for the sake of Allah; and two marks: One received (i.e. wounded) in the cause of Allah, and a mark received in the course of discharging an obligation commanded by Allah.

AbuUmamah heard the address of the Prophet (peace be upon him) on the occasion of the Last Pilgrimage in the course of which he said: Maintain an awesome respect for Allah, observe the Five Prayers daily, keep the Ramadan fast; pay the Zakat (poor due) and obey those in authority among you (except when they order you to commit sin); you will then enter the Paradise of your Sustainer.

Mention was made to Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him) of two persons: the one being a devout, and the other being a scholar. Thereupon Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him) said: The superiority of the scholar over the devout is like my superiority over one who is of the lowest rank amongst you. Then Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him) said: Verily (for the scholars) Allah and His angels, the dwellers of the Heavens and of the Earth, even an ant in its hole and fish (in the depth of water) invoke blessings on one who teaches people goodness.

Bilal began the Iqamah, and when he said: "The time for prayerhas come," the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "May Allahestablish it and cause it to continue."
AbuUmayr reported on the authority of some of his paternal uncleswho were Companions of the Prophet (peace be upon him): Some mencame riding to the Prophet (peace be upon him) and testified thatthey had sighted the new moon the previous day. He (the HolyProphet), therefore, commanded the people to break the fast andto go out to their place of prayer in the morning.
AbuUmayr reported on the authority of his uncle who was from theAnsar (the helpers of the Prophet): The Prophet (peace be uponhim) was anxious as to how to gather the people for prayer. Thepeople told him: Hoist a flag at the time of prayer; when theysee it, they will inform one another. But he (the Prophet) didnot like it. Then someone mentioned to him the horn. Ziyad said:A horn of the Jews. He (the Prophet) did not like it. He said:This is the matter of the Jews. Then they mentioned to him thebell of the Christians. He said: This is the matter of theChristians. Abdullah ibn Zayd returned anxiously from therebecause of the anxiety of the Apostle (peace be upon him). He wasthen taught the call to prayer in his dream. Next day he came tothe Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him) and informed him aboutit. He said: Apostle of Allah, I was between sleep andwakefulness; all of a sudden a newcomer came (to me) and taughtme the call to prayer. Umar ibn al-Khattab had also seen it inhis dream before, but he kept it hidden for twenty days. TheProphet (peace be upon him) said to me (Umar): What did preventyou from saying it to me? He said: Abdullah ibn Zayd had alreadytold you about it before me: hence I was ashamed. Then theApostle of Allah (peace be upon him) said: Bilal, stand up, seewhat Abdullah ibn Zayd tells you (to do), then do it. Bilal thencalled them to prayer.AbuBishr reported on the authority ofAbuUmayr: The Ansar thought that if Abdullah ibn Zayd had notbeen ill on that day, the Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him)would have made him mu'adhdhin.
A thief who had accepted (having committed theft) was brought tothe Prophet (peace be upon him), but no good were found with him.The Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him), said to him: I do notthink you have stolen. He said: Yes, I have. He repeated it twiceor thrice. So he gave orders. His hand was cut off and he wasthen brought to him. He said: Ask Allah's pardon and turn to Himin repentance. He said: I ask Allah's pardon and turn to Him inrepentance. He (the Prophet) then said: O Allah, accept hisrepentance.
We four persons, came to the Apostle of Allah (peace be uponhim), and we (i.e. each one of us) had horses. He therefore,allotted one portion for each of us, and two portions for hishorse.
AbdurRahman ibn AbuUqbah quoted his father AbuUqbah who was aclient from the people of Persia as saying: I was present at Uhudalong with the Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him), and onsmiting one of the polytheists I said: Take this from me who isthe young Persian. The Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him) thenturned to me and said: Why did you not say: Take this from me whois the young Ansari?
The tradition mentioned above (No. 4915) has also beentransmitted by AbuUsamah in a similar manner through a differentchain of narrators. This version has: "With good fortune. " She(Umm Ruman) entrusted me to them. They washed my head andredressed me. No one came to me suddenly except the Apostle ofAllah (peace be upon him) in the forenoon. So they entrusted meto him.
The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: When any one ofyou enters the mosque, he should say: "O Allah! open for me thedoors of Thy mercy" ; and when he steps out he should say: "OAllah! I beg of Thee Thy Grace." (Imam Muslim said: I heard Yahyasaying: I transcribed this hadith from the compilation ofSulayman ibn Bilal).
While we were with the Apostle of Allah! (peace be upon him) aman of Banu Salmah came to Him and said: Apostle of Allah isthere any kindness left that I can do to my parents after theirdeath? He replied: Yes, you can invoke blessings on them,forgiveness for them, carry out their final instructions aftertheir death, join ties of relationship which are dependent onthem, and honour their friends.
AbuUsayd heard the Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him) say whenhe was coming out of the mosque, and men and women were mingledin the road: Draw back, for you must not walk in the middle ofthe road; keep to the sides of the road. Then women were keepingso close to the wall that their garments were rubbing against it.
Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him) said, "Eat olive oil and anoint yourselves with it, for it comes from a blessed tree."
Tirmidhi, Ibn Majah and Darimi transmitted it.
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said at the battle of Badr: Whenthey come near you shoot arrows at them; and do not draw swordsat them until they come near you.
Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him) said, "When one of you is given basil he must not reject it, for it has come forth from Paradise."
Tirmidhi transmitted it in mursal form.
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Keep to every sorrel horsewith a white blaze and white on the legs, or dark bay with awhite blaze. He then mentioned something similar. Muhammad ibnal-Muhajir said: I asked him: Why was a sorrel horse preferred?He replied: Because the Prophet (peace be upon him) had sent acontingent, and the man who first brought the news of victory wasthe rider of a sorrel horse.
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Call yourselves by thenames of the Prophets. The names dearest to Allah are Abdullahand AbdurRahman, the truest are Harith and Hammam, and the worstare Harb and Murrah.
The Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him) said: Tie the horses,rub down their forelocks and their buttocks (or he said: Theirrumps), and put things on their necks, but do not put bowstrings.
The Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him) said: Keep to every darkbay horse with a white blaze and white on the legs, or sorrelwith a white blaze and white on the legs , or black with a whiteblaze and white on the legs.
The Prophet (peace be upon him) asked: What is your name? Hereplied: Hazn (rugged). He said: You are Sahl (smooth). Hesaid: No, smooth is trodden upon and disgraced. Sa'id said: Ithen thought that ruggedness would remain among us after it. AbuDawud said: The Prophet (peace be upon him) changed the namesal-'As, Aziz, Atalah, Shaytan, al-Hakam, Ghurab, Hubab, andShihab and called him Hisham. He changed the name Harb (war) andcalled him Silm (peace). He changed the name al-Munba'ith (onewho lies) and called him al-Mudtaji' (one who stands up). Hechanged the name of a land Afrah (barren) and called it Khadrah(green). He changed the name Shi'b ad-Dalalah (the mountain pathof a stray), the name of a mountain path and called it Shi'bal-Huda (mountain path of guidance). He changed the name Banuaz-Zinyah (children of fornication) and called them Banuar-Rushdah (children of those who are on the right path), andchanged the name Banu Mughwiyah (children of a woman who alluresand goes astray), and called them Banu Rushdah (children of awoman who is on the right path). AbuDawud said: I omitted thechains of these for the sake of brevity.
