AbuBakr ibn AbdurRahman reported on the authority of a Companionof the Prophet (peace be upon him): I saw the Prophet (peace beupon him) commanding the people while he was travelling on theoccasion of the conquest of Mecca not to observe fast. He said:Be strong for your enemy. The Apostle of Allah (peace be uponhim) fasted himself.
Bashir ibn Yasar, the client of the Ansar, reported on theauthority of a group of the Companions of the Prophet (peace beupon him): When the Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him)conquered Khaybar, he divided it into thirty-six lots, each lotcomprising one hundred portions. One half of it was for theApostle of Allah (peace be upon him) and for the Muslims; and heseparated the remaining half for the deputations which came tohim, other matters and emergent needs of the people.
Sulaym ibn Mutayr reported on the authority of his father thatMutayr went away to perform hajj. When he reached as-Suwaida', aman suddenly came searching for medicine and ammonium anthorhizumextract, and he said: A man who heard the Apostle of Allah (peacebe upon him) addressing the people commanding and prohibitingthem, told me that he said: O people, accept presents so long asthey remain presents; but when the Quraysh quarrel about therule, and the presents are given for the religion of one of you,then leave them alone.
A man from the immigrants of the Companions of the Prophet (peacebe upon him) said: I participated in battle three times alongwith the Prophet (peace be upon him). I heard him say: Muslimshave common share in three (things). grass, water and fire.
AbuSalam said on the authority of a man who served the HolyProphet (peace be upon him) that whenever he talked, he repeatedit three times.
A man from among the Companions of the Prophet (peace be uponhim) said: The Prophet (peace be upon him) forbade (mixing)unripe dates and dried dates, and (mixing) raisins and drieddates.
AbulMalih reported on the authority of a man: I was riding on amount behind the Prophet (peace be upon him). It stumbled.Thereupon I said: May the devil parish! He said: Do not say: Maythe devil perish! for if you say that , he will swell so much sothat he will be like a house, and say: By my power. But say: Inthe name of Allah; for when you say that, he will diminish somuch so that he will be like a fly.
Salim ibn AbulJa'dah said: A man said: (Mis'ar said: I think hewas from the tribe of Khuza'ah): would that I had prayed, and gotcomfort. The people objected to him for it. Thereupon he said: Iheard the Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him) as saying: OBilal, call iqamah for prayer: give us comfort by it.
AbuSallam told that he was in the mosque of Hims. A man passedhim and the people said about him that he served the Prophet(peace be upon him). He (AbuSallam) went to him and said: Tell meany tradition which you heard from the Apostle of Allah (peace beupon him) and there were no man between him and you. He said: Iheard the Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him) say: If anyonesays in the morning and in the evening: "I am pleased with Allahas Lord, with Islam as religion, with Muhammad as Prophet," Allahwill certainly please him.
Ghalib said: When we were sitting at al-Hasan's door, a man camealong. He said: My father told me on the authority of mygrandfather, saying: My father sent me to the Apostle of Allah(peace be upon him) and said: Go to him and give him a greeting.So I went to him and said: My father sends you a greeting. Hesaid: Upon you and upon your father be peace.
Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him) counted them in my hand or in his hand saying: Tasbih (SubhanAllah is half the Mizan (scale), praise be to Allah fills it (completely). AllahuAkbar (Allah is the Greatest) fills the space between Heaven and Earth, fasting is the half of the endurance and cleanliness is half of the faith.
Tirmidhi transmitted it and said, this is a Hasan tradition.
Muhammad ibn AbdurRahman ibn Thawban reported on the authority ofa man from the Companions of the Prophet (peace be upon him):When Ali married Fatimah, daughter of the Apostle of Allah (peacebe upon him), he intended to have intercourse with her. TheApostle of Allah (peace be upon him) prohibited him to do sountil he gave her something. Ali said: I have nothing with me,Apostle of Allah. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Give heryour coat of mail. So he gave her his coat of mail, and thencohabited with her.
The Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him) said: Neither vomiting,nor emission, nor cupping breaks the fast of the one who isfasting.
AbdurRahman ibn Ka'b ibn Malik reported on the authority of a manfrom among the companions of the Prophet (peace be upon him): Theinfidels of the Quraysh wrote (a letter) to Ibn Ubayy and tothose who worshipped idols from al-Aws and al-Khazraj, while theApostle of Allah (peace be upon him) was at that time at Medinabefore the battle of Badr. (They wrote): You gave protection toour companion. We swear by Allah, you should fight him or expelhim, or we shall come to you in full force, until we kill yourfighters and appropriate your women. When this (news) reachedAbdullah ibn Ubayy and those who were worshippers of idols, withhim they gathered together to fight the Apostle of Allah (peacebe upon him). When this news reached the Apostle of Allah (peacebe upon him), he visited them and said: The threat of the Qurayshto you has reached its end. They cannot contrive a plot againstyou, greater than what you yourselves intended to harm you. Areyou willing to fight your sons and brethren? When they heard thisfrom the Prophet (peace be upon him), they scattered. Thisreached the infidels of the Quraysh. The infidels of the Qurayshagain wrote (a letter) to the Jews after the battle of Badr: Youare men of weapons and fortresses. You should fight our companionor we shall deal with you in a certain way. And nothing will comebetween us and the anklets of your women. When their letterreached the Prophet (peace be upon him), they gathered Banuan-Nadir to violate the treaty. They sent a message to theProphet (peace be upon him): Come out to us with thirty men fromyour companions, and thirty rabbis will come out from us till wemeet at a central place where they will hear you. If they testifyto you and believe in you, we shall believe in you. The narratorthen narrated the whole story.When the next day came, theApostle of Allah (peace be upon him) went out in the morning withan army, and surrounded them. He told them: I swear by Allah,you will have no peace from me until you conclude a treaty withme. But they refused to conclude a treaty with him. He thereforefought them the same day. Next he attacked Banu Quraysh with anarmy in the morning, and left Banu an-Nadir. He asked them tosign a treaty and they signed it. He turned away from them andattacked Banu an-Nadir with an army. He fought with them untilthey agreed to expulsion. Banu an-Nadir were deported, and theytook with them whatever their camels could carry, that is, theirproperty, the doors of their houses, and their wood. Palm-treeswere exclusively reserved for the Apostle of Allah (peace be uponhim). Allah bestowed them upon him and gave them him as a specialportion. He (Allah), the Exalted, said: What Allah has bestowedon His Apostle (and taken away) from them, for this ye made noexpedition with either camel corps or cavalry." He said: "Withoutfighting." So the Prophet (peace be upon him) gave most of it tothe emigrants and divided it among them; and he divided some ofit between two men from the helpers, who were needy, and he didnot divide it among any of the helpers except those two. The restof it survived as the sadaqah of the Apostle of Allah (peace beupon him) which is in the hands of the descendants of Fatimah(Allah be pleased with her).
Harb ibn Ubaydullah ibn Umayr ath-Thaqafi told on the authorityof his grandfather, a man of Banu Taghlib: I came to the Prophet(peace be upon him), embraced Islam, and he taught me Islam. Healso taught me how I should take sadaqah from my people who hadbecome Muslim. I then returned to him and said: Apostle of Allah,I remembered whatever you taught me except the sadaqah. Should Ilevy tithe on them? He replied: No, tithes are to be levied onChristians and Jews.
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Probably you will fightwith a people, you will dominate them, and they will savethemselves and their children by their property. The version ofSa'id has You will then conclude peace with them. The agreedversion goes: Then do no take anything from them more than that,for it is not proper for you.
Kulayb reported from a man of the Ansar. He said: We went outwith the Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him) on a journey. Thepeople suffered from intense need and strain. They gained bootyand then plundered it. While our pots were boiling the Apostle ofAllah (peace be upon him) came walking with his bow touching theground. He turned over our pots with his bow and smeared the meatwith the soil, and said: "Plunder is more unlawful than carrion,"or he said: "Carrion is more unlawful than plunder." The narratorHannad was doubtful.
The Prophet (peace be upon him) called for a skin-vessel on theday of the battle of Uhud. He then said: Invert the head of thevessel and he drank from its mouth.
Al-Muhallab ibn AbuSufrah said: A man who heard the Prophet(peace be upon him) say: If the enemy attacks you at night, letyour war cry be Ha-Mim. They will not be helped.
Safwan reported from a number of Companions of the Apostle ofAllah (peace be upon him) on the authority of their fathers whowere relatives of each other. The Apostle of Allah (peace be uponhim) said: Beware, if anyone wrongs a contracting man, ordiminishes his right, or forces him to work beyond his capacity,or takes from him anything without his consent, I shall plead forhim on the Day of Judgment.
Sa'id ibn al-Musayyab said: An Ansari was breathing his last. Hesaid: I narrate to you a tradition, and I narrate it with theintention of getting a reward from Allah. I heard the Apostle ofAllah (peace be upon him) say: If any one of you performsablution and performs it very well, and goes out for prayer, hedoes not take his right step but Allah records a good work (orblessing) for him, and he does not take his left step but Allahremits one sin from him. Any one of you may reside near themosque or far from it; if he comes to the mosque and prays incongregation, he will be forgiven (by Allah). If he comes to themosque while the people had prayed in part, and the prayerremained in part, and he prays in congregation the part hejoined, and completed the part he had missed, he will enjoysimilarly (i.e. he will be forgiven). If he comes to the mosquewhen the people had finished prayer, he will enjoy the same.
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: You women folk, have insilver something with which you adorn yourselves. I assure youthat any woman of you who adorns herself with gold which shedisplays will be punished for it.
Urwah ibn az-Zubayr reported on the authority of a woman fromBanu an-Najjar. She said: My house was the loftiest of all thehouses around the mosque (of the Prophet at Medina). Bilal usedto make a call to the morning prayer from it. He would come therebefore the break of dawn and wait for it. When he saw it, hewould yawn and say: O Allah, I praise you and seek Yourassistance for the Quraysh so that they might establish Thinereligion. He then would make the call to prayer. She (thenarrator) said: By Allah, I do not know whether he ever leftsaying these words on any night.
She reported: I said Apostle of Allah, our road to the mosque hasan unpleasant stench; what should we do when it is raining? Heasked: Is there not a cleaner part after the filthy part of theroad? She replied: Why not (there is one)! He said: It makes upfor the other.
Usayd ibn AbuUsayd, reported on the authority of a woman who tookoath of allegiance (to the Prophet): One of the oaths which theApostle of Allah (peace be upon him) received from us about thevirtue was that we would not disobey him in it (virtue): that wewould not scratch the face, nor wail, nor tear the front of thegarments nor dishevel the hair.
A'idh ibn Amr, who was one of the Companions of the Messenger ofAllah (peace be upon him), called on Ubaydullah ibn Ziyad andsaid (to him): O my son, I have heard the Messenger of Allah(peace be upon him) say: The worst of guardians is the cruelruler. Beware of being one of them. Ubaydullah said (to him outof arrogance): Sit you down. You are from the chaff of theCompanions of Muhammad (peace be upon him). A'idh said: Was thereworthless chaff among them ? Such worthless chaff appeared afterthem and among other people.
AbuSufyan came to Salman, Suhayb and Bilal in the presence of agroup of persons. They said: By Allah, the sword of Allah did notreach the neck of the enemy of Allah as it was required to reach.Thereupon AbuBakr said: Do you say this to the old man of theQuraysh and their chief? Then he came to Allah's Apostle (peacebe upon him) and informed him of this. Thereupon he (the Prophet)said: AbuBakr, you have perhaps annoyed them and if you annoyedthem you have in fact annoyed your Lord. So AbuBakr came to themand said: O my brothers, I have annoyed you. They said: No, ourbrother, may Allah forgive you!
While we were with 'Utba bin Farqad at Adharbijan, there came 'Umar's letter indicating that Allah's Apostle had forbidden the use of silk except this much, then he pointed with his index and middle fingers. To our knowledge, by that he meant embroidery.
Abu Barza said, "(O people!) Allah makes you self-sufficient or has raised you high with Islam and with Muhammad."
