Surah 4. An-Nisaa, Ayah 120



يَعِدُهُمْ وَيُمَنِّيهِمْ ۖ وَمَا يَعِدُهُمُ الشَّيْطَانُ إِلَّا غُرُورًا


Asad : he holds out promises to them, and fills them with vain desires: yet whatever Satan promises them is but meant to delude the mind.142
Malik : Shaitan makes promises to stir up in them false desires; but Shaitan makes them promises only to deceive them.
Pickthall : He promiseth them and stirreth up desires in them, and Satan promiseth them only to beguile.
Yusuf Ali : Satan makes them promises and creates in them false desires; but Satan's promises are nothing but deception.
Transliteration : YaAAiduhum wayumanneehim wama yaAAiduhumu alshshaytanu illa ghurooran

Asad 142 The term ghurur signifies anything by which the mind is beguiled or deceived - for instance, utter self-abandonment to earthly joys, or the absurd belief that there is no limit to man's aims and achievements.
